ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Aces and Isotopes had another pitchers duel on Wednesday afternoon led by Kohl Drake's five no-hit innings, but Albuquerque's two runs in the bottom of the eighth led to a 3-1 defeat for the BLC-Nine.
Drake was dominant in his second start of the 2026 campaign for Reno (3-3), retiring 15 of the 17 batters he faced issuing just a pair of walks in the no decision. He also struck out five on the afternoon upping his season total to 11 in the young season.
With the outing, Drake is just the second visiting pitcher since at least 2005 to throw five innings without allowing a run or a hit at Isotopes Park.
On the other side of the ball, Tanner Gordon dealt for the Isotopes (2-4) tossing six shutout frames before the Reno offense put a run in the board in the sixth. Jean Walters led off the inning with a 103 mph double off the left field wall, his second hit of the day, before coming around to score on a Ryan Waldschmidt single.
Walters finished the day 2-for-3 upping his slash line to .429/.636/.714 through three games while Waldschmidt ended the afternoon 1-for-4 to extend his hit streak to five consecutive games. Waldschmidt also added to his team-leading RBI total as he is up to seven through his first six Triple-A games.
Albuquerque immediately answered back plating a run on a Zac Veen RBI double to even the score up at one apiece against Bryce Jarvis. The run also snapped a 21-inning scoreless streak for the Aces pitching staff, the longest such stretch since holding Sugar Land scoreless for 22 consecutive innings in September of 2024.
After neither team scored in the seventh, Reno stranded the go-ahead run on second base in the top of the eighth before Vimael Machin yanked a two-RBI double down the right field line to put his team out in front.
The Aces would bring the tying run to the plate, but a game-ending double play would squander a potential rally and hand the Aces their third loss of the season.
Game four of this series is set for Thursday in Albuquerque with first pitch at 5:35 p.m. PT.
