TONIGHT: In a matchup of teams that are 1-2 in the American South Division, the RedHawks open a 4-game series at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark against the Albuquerque Isotopes (Los Angeles Dodgers). The clubs split a 4-game series in OKC to begin the year. OKC sports the best team ERA in the league and has allowed the fewest runs and homers, while Albuquerque is tops in runs scored and team batting average. OKC leads the division by 1.5 games after taking Tuesday's series finale in Omaha 6-0. OKC won 3 of 4 against the Royals. Righthander Guillermo Moscoso is due to start for the RedHawks against Albuquerque's Tim Corcoran.
AT THE TURN: Yesterday was the PCL's third off day of the season. So far, the campaign has been divided into three 20-day segments. OKC went 13-7 in the first phase, 8-11 in the second hunk (1 game was postponed) and 11-8 in the segment that ended Tuesday (1 game was cancelled by rain in Tacoma).
HOME SWEET HOME?: The RedHawks have amassed a 14-14 record at home, but have dropped 7 of their last 8 at The Brick. On the road, they have compiled an 18-12 mark.
SHUTOUT NOTES: The RedHawks' Michael Kirkman (7 innings) and Michael Ballard (2 innings) shut out Omaha 6-0 on 4 hits in OKC's most recent game on Tuesday. It was the RedHawks' fifth shutout (all have involved multiple pitchers), which Fresno, New Orleans and Tacoma for the league lead. Kirkman has started two of the combined shutouts, teaming with Clay Rapada to blank Memphis on 2 hits April 25.
STREAKS: Chris Davis is on a season-high 8-game hitting streak, during which he's 15-for-30 (.500) with 2 homers and 5 RBIs. Ryan Garko brings an 18-game on-base streak into tonight. He has reached in every game played as a RedHawk since debuting May 20 at Portland. Brandon Boggs has reached in 15 straight and is tied for fourth in the league in walks with 33.
DIFFERENTIALLY SPEAKING: The RedHawks own the best run differential in the league, having scored 295 runs while allowing 224, +71. Fresno is second at +55. The Durham Bulls of the International League have the best run differential among Triple-A teams with a +124, having scored 344 and allowed 220 runs while building a 36-24 record, second-best in the IL behind Columbus' 37-24.
GERMAN TRACKER: Esteban German is tied for third in the league lead with 41 runs scored and second in stolen bases with 20. German is sixth in the PCL in walks with 32. He has the league's longest road on-base streak, having reached by hit, walk or hit-by-pitch in 22 consecutive road contests.
PITCHING TOPS IN PCL: OKC leads the PCL in team ERA at 3.33. Iowa is second at 3.67. The RedHawks have allowed the fewest home runs in the league (28), 14 fewer than the closest team, Fresno. OKC has allowed the fewest runs (224) and earned runs (192), while compiling the second-most strikeouts (437) behind Sacramento (447).
BRAWNY BULLPEN: OKC's bullpen was needed for only 2 innings on Tuesday, its shortest workload in a 9-inning game since May 12. In the past 23 games, OKC's bullpen has worked 88.2 innings, allowing 17 earned runs (1.73 ERA) on 57 hits while going 6-2.
ROUND TRIPPER RAMBLINGS: OKC has collected 52 homers, fifth-most in the PCL. The RedHawks have homered in 3 straight games, going deep in the first inning each of the last 2 contests in Omaha, a 2-run shot on Monday by Chris Davis and a 3-run blast on Tuesday by Ryan Garko. The RedHawks have 25 homers at The Brick and 27 on the road, but have played 2 more games on the road. Half of OKC's homers (26 of 52) have been with 2 outs in an inning. Thirteen homers have tied the score or given them the lead in the fifth inning or later. The 2009 RedHawks had 7 such homers in all of last season.
