New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Round Rock right-hander Josh Bank came within two outs of a three-hit shutout, before former Zephyr Roy Corcoran entered to induce a game-ending double play to give the Express a 2-0 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Thursday night.

The Zephyrs advanced a runner to third base just once in the game, when Brad Davis led off the sixth with a single, and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and third on a ground out. Bryan Petersen lined out softly to second base to end the threat.

Trailing 2-0 in the ninth, Banks (7-4) issued a leadoff walk to John Raynor, and a one-out walk to Logan Morrison, prompting a pitching change. Hector Luna bounced Corcoran's second pitch back to the pitcher, who fired to second to begin the game-ending double play.

New Orleans finished 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position. Tom Mastny pitched five scoreless innings in his Zephyrs debut, allowing five hits while striking out six and walking two.

The game was scoreless into the eighth inning, before Round Rock struck against Brett Sinkbeil (0-2), scoring on sinking two-out single by Jason Castro that just eluded the glove of Raynor in left field.

The Express tacked on an insurance run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Edwin Maysonet.

The series continues Friday at 7:00 p.m., with a pair of southpaws squaring off, as Zephyrs left-hander Sean West faces Express lefty Polin Trinidad.

The Zephyrs will be wearing special pink jerseys to be auctioned off after the game, with proceeds going to Save The Ta-Ta's, an organization supporting breast cancer awareness.
