EARLY RUNS CARRY SKY SOX: Colorado Springs scored 9 runs in the first 3 innings last night on the way to a 13-3 win over the RedHawks. The Sox tallied 3 in the first off Kris Benson (3-3) allowed 7 earned runs (9 total) in 3 innings. OKC narrowed a 5-0 gap in the second inning on a 2-run homer by Brandon Boggs, which broke a 10-inning hitless drought for the RedHawks dating to Tuesday's no-hitter in the series opener. Boggs is second on the team in homers with 7, five behind Kevin Richardson. Brandon Hynick (10-7) went 5 innings for the win, allowing all 3 OKC runs.

LATE RUNS DIFFICULT: The RedHawks have 1 hit and no runs against the Sky Sox bullpen in 7.2 innings this series. Colorado Springs relievers retired 20 straight RedHawks until a leadoff single in the ninth last night by Joaquin Arias.

VALLEJO DEALT: Infielder Jose Vallejo, OKC's regular second baseman since early May, has been traded to Houston as part of the trade that sent catcher Ivan Rodriguez to the Rangers earlier this week.

CRUZ BACK TO THE BIG LEAGUES: Texas activated All-Star outfielder Nelson Cruz from its 15-day DL today after a 3-game rehab stint with the RedHawks. Cruz, the 2008 PCL MVP, went 0-for-10 with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts during his local stint. To make room for Cruz, the Rangers optioned right-handed pitcher Guillermo Moscoso, who will return to OKC's rotation.

DIVISION RACE UPDATE: OKC's current 6-game deficit in the American South behind Albuquerque matches its farthest point back of the division lead this season. The RedHawks were also 6 games back following losses on the recent trip Aug. 8 and Aug. 10. Counting tonight, the RedHawks have 21 games remaining (6 at home) and the Isotopes have 19 left, 13 at home. Albuquerque's magic number to clinch the division is 15 and the Isotopes hold the first tie-breaker, having won the season series 9-7. The RedHawks are 19-15 since the All-Star break, but have dropped from 1 to 6 games back of Albuquerque, which is 25-10 since the break.

DOT...DOT...DOT: Last night's 13 runs by Colorado Springs were the fourth-most surrendered by OKC this season, behind a pair of 14-run games, a 15-run output and a franchise-record 23 runs by Albuquerque July 30...The RedHawks are 0-22 when allowing 8 or more runs...OKC pitching has allowed 78 home runs, the fewest in the league by 7 over Las Vegas, while RedHawks hitters have the fewest homers in the PCL with 65.

NEW NAME FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: The Bricktown Showdown, which the PCL champion has won all three years its been played, is now the Triple-A Baseball National Championship Game. The annual meeting of the playoff champions from the International and Pacific Coast Leagues takes place at Oklahoma City's AT&T Bricktown Ballpark Sept. 22 at 6 pm CDT and will be broadcast live again this season on ESPN2 and Westwood One radio.
