New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

The New Orleans Zephyrs reached a club-record 30 consecutive scoreless innings on Thursday night. It was the 31st inning that cost them, though, as the Salt Lake Bees broke through for seven runs against the Zephyrs bullpen in the eighth for a 7-0 win over the Z's.

Starting pitchers John Koronka and Brad Knox dueled through seven innings, with Koronka yielding just two hits and Knox three.

Koronka exited the game after throwing 98 pitches in seven innings, and turned the game over to Jay Buente, who entered Thursday boasting a 1.11 ERA in 15 games this season at Zephyr Field.

But Buente allowed six runs while recording just two outs, the big blow coming on a bases-loaded double by Brandon Wood. The Bees would go on to add another bases-loaded double in the inning, Bobby Wilson's drive into the left-center field gap off Chris Mobley, to put the game out of reach.

Despite the quality start, Koronka remained winless since June 18. Knox loaded the bases in the eighth, but worked out of trouble to maintain the shutout and picked up the win.

The Zephyrs and Bees conclude the four-game series Friday night at 7 p.m., with RH Rick VandenHurk facing RH Brad Salmon.
