HUFFMAN'S DOUBLE CAPS 6-5 WIN: Each team had leads that disappeared last night, but Royce Huffman's one-out double in the ninth scored Joaquin Arias as the RedHawks beat Iowa 6-5 in the series opener. OKC had 3-0 and 4-1 leads, while Iowa rallied for a 5-4 edge in the seventh inning before the game was tied in the bottom of the seventh. Chris Davis belted a solo homer, his first in 3 Triple-A games this season, while Jose Vallejo went 4-for-4 to lead OKC. Neftali Feliz (4-5) pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to earn the win, his first as a reliever. Greg Reinhard (1-3) pitched the ninth for Iowa to take the loss.

BULLPEN UPDATE: In the 16 games in which it was used before last night, the OKC bullpen had allowed 9 earned runs in 62 innings, a 1.31 ERA. Last night, the pen allowed 4 runs in a 2-inning stretch, taking its first blown save since June 18, but wound up working 5 innings and picking up the win. Mike Hinckley's 10-1-inning scoreless streak ended last night when he was charged with a pair of runs in the seventh.

WIN WITH EL DUQUE: He didn't get the decision last night, but Orlando Hernandez has appeared in 7 games for the RedHawks and OKC has won them all.

ALL ABOUT WINNING: OKC's bullpen has not had a losing decision since June 17, when Mike Hinckley was charged with an unearned run in the 11th inning of a 5-4 loss to Iowa. Each of the RedHawks last 7 losses has gone to the starting pitcher. The relief corps has earned 6 wins since its last loss.

GERMAN KEEPS ON GOING: Esteban German brings a team-best 12-game hitting streak into today's contest, during which he's 19-for-48 (.396) with 9 RBIs. German also has a 24-game on-base streak, the longest active streak in the PCL and 14 back of Matt Murton's season high. OKC's All-Star representative, German is seventh in the league in batting with a .322 average, tied for second in the PCL in on-base percentage at .426 and fourth in walks with 50.

MAD DOG ALERT: OKC reliever Warner Madrigal has not allowed a run in 8 games (7.1 innings) since being optioned most recently June 17.

ANOTHER NARROW DECISION: The RedHawks lead the league in victories in one-run games at 19-11. The closest teams in that category have 16. OKC is tied with Round Rock for the most wins in games tied after 8 innings at 10-3. The Express is 10-4 in games tied after 8.

R & R FOR CLARK AND COOLBAUGH: OKC pitching coach Terry Clark and hitting coach Scott Coolbaugh are missing this series for their Ranger-mandated, in-season vacation. In their absence, former Ranger pitching coach Mark Connor is handling the pitching staff while Harry Spilman is looking after the hitters. Spilman, Nashville's hitting coach the past 2 seasons, is a special assistant to Texas' Director of Player Development Scott Servais.
