Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, TN - Memphis used a strong outing from starter Adam Ottavino to blank visiting Albuquerque 3-0 Friday night at AutoZone Park.
Ottavino earned his first Triple-A win in his team-leading 17th start of the year pitching 8.1 scoreless innings. The former first round pick scattered four hits, walked one and fanned seven before leaving after a Chin-Lung Hu double in the ninth inning. Redbirds closer and All-Star Jess Todd struck out the final two batters to pick up his league-leading 21st save of the year.
In a game that featured eight total hits with each team collecting four, Memphis scratched out three runs for the victory. Jon Jay led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run but the âBirds had just three hits the rest of the game scoring a run in the sixth inning thanks to three wild pitches from Albuquerque starter Charlie Haegar, who took the loss allowing three runs on four hits across seven innings.
The Redbirds host the Isotopes tomorrow night with game time set for 6:05 p.m. and fireworks scheduled post-game. Clayton Mortensen gets the nod for the âBirds with lefty Eric Stults going to the hill for the âTopes.
