Rainiers Move into Third Place Ahead of Beavers in Pacific Northern Division

TACOMA, Wash. - Erick Monzon tallied a pair of hits and two RBIs and Steven Shell allowed one run over six innings as the Tacoma Rainiers defeated the Portland Beavers 3-1 Friday night at Cheney Stadium.

Shell (2-1) went six innings, allowing one run on four hits to earn his second win of the season.

Adam Moore scored two runs and Callix Crabbe added an RBI for the Rainiers (42-46).

Danny Putnam gathered a double and an RBI for the Beavers (42-47).

Wade LeBlanc (2-6) gave up three runs (2 earned) on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss. . Drew Macias advanced to third on a double by Chad Huffman and then scored on an RBI groundout by Putnam to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead in the second inning.

The Rainiers took the lead 2-1 in the bottom of the second on a run-scoring single by Monzon and a sacrifice fly by Crabbe.

Three consecutive singles in the sixth, capped off by Monzon's second RBI of the game, put the Rainiers up 3-1.

Randy Messenger (18) threw a scoreless ninth to secure the Rainiers' victory.

The Beavers meet the Rainiers again Saturday night, 7 p.m. (Pacific), at Cheney Stadium.
