Memphis, Tenn. â Oklahoma outlasted Memphis and scored the go ahead run in the seventh inning and then held on to beat the Redbirds 5-4 Saturday night at AutoZone Park in front of a crowd of 10, 632.
Oklahoma's Esteban German singled and Ian Kinsler doubled off the left field wall to begin the seventh inning off Redbirds' reliever Toby Borland. Kinsler would later score the go ahead run on a Marshall McDougall ground out. Borland (1-2) took the loss, despite facing only two batters. CF Skip Schumaker and 3B Wilton Guerrero each had two hits apiece for the âBirds.
Redbirds starter Kevin Jarvis pitched six innings and allowed four runs on seven hits with six strikeouts. Memphis sent five pitchers to the mound on the night. Oklahoma starter John Wasdin picked up his league-leading seventh win of the season. Jose Veras earned his fifth save with 1.1 innings of perfect relief.
Memphis will start Anthony Reyes (5-1, 2.52) to oppose Oklahoma's Ricardo Rodriguez (5-3, 3.32) in tomorrow's game. Game time is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. with fireworks following the game.
