
RedHawks open trip with extra-inning loss

John Gall singled home Hector Luna with the winning run in the 10th inning Friday night as Memphis took the series opener from Oklahoma 5-4. The loss ended Oklahoma's five-game winning streak and snapped a stretch of 24.2 innings from the bullpen without allowing an earned run.
Oklahoma, now 26-23, out-hit Memphis 12-8. Up 2-0 after a half inning, Oklahoma starter Matt Riley allowed a run in the first and three in the second to fall behind 4-2. The RedHawks tied the game with single runs in the fifth and eighth.
Jason Conti had a pair of RBIs for Oklahoma, while Adrian Gonzalez was 3-for-4 with the game-tying RBI. Jason Botts also drove in a run.
RedHawks pitching held Memphis hitless for seven straight innings, the third through ninth, until Luna led off the 10th with a single. After a wild pitch, Raul Gonzalez was walked intentionally. Gall followed with the game-winning single to left center.
Justin Thompson (0-1) took the loss, allowing two hits and a walk in the 10th after a 1-2-3 ninth. Carmen Cali (2-2) earned the relief win for Memphis (26-21).
The RedHawks will start John Wasdin in Saturday night's game at 6:05 p.m. CDT. He'll be opposed by Memphis' Kevin Jarvis. The broadcast can be heard on Super Talk 930 WKY and Sportsjuice.com. The RedHawks will play three more in Memphis and head ot Des Moines for a four-game series with Iowa before returning home June 4.
