Nashville Sounds News Release
NASHVILLE â Prince Fielder belted a grand slam and matched his career high with six RBIs in leading the Nashville Sounds to a 13-8 victory over the visiting New Orleans Zephyrs on Saturday evening in front of 8,137 fans at Greer Stadium.
With the victory, the Sounds (25-25) pulled back to .500 on the season and within two games of first-place Memphis in the PCL American Conference Northern Division.
Nashville exploded for a double-digit outburst against the Z's for the second consecutive night; the Sounds scored 13 in the series opener on Friday. Every Nashville position player recorded a hit except Ryan Knox.
Former Sound J.J. Davis spotted the visitors a 1-0 lead with an RBI double off Sounds starter Justin Lehr in the top of the first inning. New Orleans doubled the advantage in the third on Matt Cepicky's two-out RBI double down the left field line.
Fielder tied the game at 2-2 with an opposite-field, two-run double off the base of the wall in left in the bottom of the third. Lehr, who had walked, and Rickie Weeks, who doubled, scored on the two-bagger.
The Zephyrs retook the lead with a two-run fourth against Lehr despite not having a hit leave the infield, using a pair of Nashville errors to register the tallies.
Nashville exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted by Fielder's grand slam off Yarnall, to jump ahead, 8-4, before tacking on four more in the fifth to make it a 12-4 contest. Dave Krynzel and Kevin Orie both homered during the Nashville fifth, belting their fifth and eighth roundtrippers of the season respectively.
New Orleans got four runs back in the top of the sixth with a pair of two-run homers off Sounds reliever Andy Pratt. Davis continued his solid evening when he belted his second homer in as many nights against his former club, smacking the first two-run shot for his third roundtripper of the season. Rick Short followed with his own two-run shot off Pratt two batters later, his fifth homer of the year.
Weeks ripped his second double of the night to plate Chris Barnwell with the evening's final run, extending the Nashville lead to 13-8 in the bottom of the eighth. The Brewers' top prospect has mashed 19 of his last 25 hits for extra bases.
Pratt (2-4) picked up the victory after allowing four runs in two innings of relief work behind Lehr. Yarnall (3-3) was tagged with the loss after surrendering eight runs in only three frames of work.
The teams continue the series with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday afternoon at Greer Stadium. Right-hander Jose Capellan (3-2, 4.87) will make the start for the Sounds and face New Orleans right-hander Chad Durbin (0-2, 8.17).
