Fresno Grizzlies News Release

Fresno, CA-The Tacoma Rainiers downed the Fresno Grizzlies 8-2 Friday night at Grizzlies Stadium in the first game of a four-game series. The win gave the Rainiers a 5-4 season-series advantage over the Grizzlies.

Tacoma jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning after CF Jamal Strong led off the game with a triple off of Fresno starter RHP Brian Cooper (3-6) and was later brought home on a fielder's choice. The Rainiers would not look back as starter RHP Cha Seung Baek (4-1) pitched seven innings of shutout baseball to pick up the win, while the offense blasted three home runs, the most in a single game against the Grizzlies this season.

The Grizzlies offense showed signs of life in the bottom of the ninth inning when 3B Michael Cervenak hit a solo home run, his fifth of the season, with one out and was followed two batters later by DH Jed Hansen's home run, his second in as many nights. Cervenak led the Grizzlies going 3-4 with the home run while LF Doug Clark was 2-4 at the plate.

These same two teams will be back in action tomorrow night at Grizzlies Stadium with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 P.M. The first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a 6-Pack Grizzlies Logo Cooler Bag, presented by San Joaquin Valley Air District. RHP Jesse Foppert (2-1, 5.18) will make the start on the mound for the Grizzlies. Sunday's pitching match up will be a battle of future superstars as 20-year-old Matt Cain will do battle against Baseball America's Top Prospect 19-year-old Felix Hernandez. First pitch for Sunday's game is scheduled for 2:05 P.M.
