Oklahoma City Comets News Release

HIGHLIGHTS: The Oklahoma RedHawks finished a three-game sweep of the New Orleans Zephyrs Thursday afternoon, winning 6-2 and backing Eric Hurley in his second win of the season. Oklahoma outscored New Orleans 26-7 during the three-game series, and has won three straight games for the first time since the middle of April.

The RedHawks got on the board early against Zephyrs starter Adam Bostick. Jason Ellison doubled to lead off the bottom of the first inning and scored on a ground out by Nelson Cruz. Oklahoma added a five spot in the second when five of the first six batters of the inning reached and scored, keyed by a two-run single from Travis Metcalf and a two-run triple from Joaquin Arias. That offense was more than enough for Hurley, who pitched seven scoreless innings, striking out five along the way. Hurley (2-3) was backed by a strong defense that turned a season-high four double plays. New Orleans scored two late runs off the Oklahoma bullpen, but was still outscored 26-7 by the RedHawks during the series.

Ellison had four hits to lead Oklahoma, which saw 13 of its 35 hits during the three game series go for extra bases, including three home runs and four triples. The RedHawks embark on an eight-game roadtrip to Iowa and Omaha starting Friday evening at 7:05 pm.
