Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Portland, OR - Brian Myrow made a diving catch on Trent Oeltjen's low line drive to start a game ending double play as the Portland Beavers held off the Sidewinders 6-4 on Thursday night. The loss drops Tucson to a season low 16 games below .500.

Tucson loaded the bases without the benefit of a hit against former Sidewinder Adam Bass in the ninth inning. Bass hit both Wilkin Castillo and Jesus Merchan to open the inning and after an Emilio Bonifacio sacrifice bunt moved the runners up, Donnie Kelly drew a walk. On a 2-2 pitch, Trent Oeltjen hit a screaming line drive toward first that Myrow speared with a dive to his left. The Portland first baseman got to his feet and ran to the bag where he doubled off Kelly to end the game.

The Sidewinders erased an early 3-0 deficit to take a 4-3 lead in the 6th. Both Tim Raines, Jr. and Wilkin Castillo homered in the inning and Josh Whitesell added a RBI groundout. The lead was short lived however as the Beavers came back with two in the bottom of the sixth and added an insurance run in the seventh.

Yusmeiro Petit was charged with the loss as he allowed five runs on nine hits in five and a third innings.

The Sidewinders return home on Friday night to open a four game series with the division leading Sacramento Rivercats. First pitch is at 6:30. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:20.
