November 2, 2022 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Ottawa RedBlacks News Release
OTTAWA - A pair of Ottawa REDBLACKS earned CFL East Division All-Star honours, today; with receiver Jaelon Acklin, and defensive lineman Lorenzo Mauldin IV being named to the 2022 iteration of the team.
Acklin, 27, put forth the best season of his CFL career, in his first with the REDBLACKS. The Mountain View, Missouri native caught 75 passes for 1,169 yards, finishing with the fifth-most in the CFL, despite being limited to 15 games due to injury. Acklin also hauled in a pair of touchdowns during the season, and on September 2, against the Montreal Alouettes, racked up a single-game career high 159 yards through the air.
Also being named CFL Top Performer for the month of July, as well as for Week 13, Acklin is under contract with the REDBLACKS for the 2023 season.
Mauldin, 30, also enjoyed a career year in 2022. The Sacramento, California product finished the year as CFL sack leader, with 17, and breaking the REDBLACKS' previous single-season record of 12, set by Justin Capicciotti in 2015. Appearing in all 18 games, Mauldin also recorded 43 defensive tackles, and a pair of forced fumbles, en route to being named East Division finalist for 2022's Most Outstanding Defensive Player.
The Division All-Stars were selected by the local voting members of the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC) in their respective division's markets and the National Chapter, as well as their respective division's head coaches.
Fans took part in this year's selections through the All-Star Fan Vote, powered by the league's Official Data and Technology Partner Genius Sports.
The 2022 CFL All-Stars will be announced on Thursday, November 10.
