Lewis, Rice, Sutton, and Worthy Named to East Division All-Star Team
November 2, 2022 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Montreal Alouettes News Release
Montreal - Earlier today, the CFL issued a news release announcing this year's East and West Division All-Stars, which were voted on by coaches, the media and fans. A subsequent examination has revealed that an error was made in the tabulation and weighting of votes, which resulted in errors in the release.
The CFL offers its sincere apologies to everyone involved, especially the players who were incorrectly announced as All-Stars or were incorrectly left off the list. We have also issued an apology to the Canadian Football League Players' Association. The responsibility for this mistake rests solely with the CFL, and not those who cast ballots or the CFLPA.
Receiver Eugene Lewis, offensive lineman Landon Rice, defensive back Wesley Sutton and returner Chandler Worthy of the Montreal Alouettes were selected on the East Division All-Star Team.
Eugene Lewis - Wide Receiver (3rd selection)
East Division All Star: 2019, 2021, 2022
This marks the third straight selection for the 29-year-old receiver, who was the Alouettes most sought after target in 2022, catching 91 passes for 1,303 yards, which allowed him to finish in third place in the CFL. The former University of Oklahoma standout also caught 10 touchdown passes. Lewis was consistent throughout the season, even if he caught passes from two different quarterbacks, as he registered five games with more than 100 receiving yards, on top of maintaining an average of 14.3 yards per catch.
Landon Rice - Offensive Line (2nd selection)
East Division All Star: 2021, 2022
Landon Rice receives this nomination for a second straight year after starting 17 of the 18 games at the right tackle position, which is normally a spot dedicated to American players. The 34-year-old has anchored an offensive line that helped quarterback Trevor Harris throw for 4,157 yards, which is the second highest total in the CFL.
Wesley Sutton - Defensive Back (1st selection)
East Division All Star: 2022
Sutton lead the Alouettes with 79 defensive tackles, placing him seventh in the CFL. The 26-year-old also registered four sacks and one interception, on top of forcing two fumbles and knocking down a team-high nine passes (tied with Mike Jones).
Chandler Worthy - Returner (1st selection)
East Division All Star: 2022
The team's main returner is responsible for 1,862 yards gained in 2022 with the Alouettes. He sits second in the CFL with 1,220 kickoff return yards, scoring two touchdowns in the process. That also represent the second highest total in Alouettes' history. The 29-year-old kept fans on the edge of their seats, as he returned four kickoffs for more than 40 yards and six punt returns of more than 30 yards. His 547 punt return yards represent the fifth highest total in the CFL.
Divisional All-Stars were chosen by Football Reporters of Canada (FRC) members, CFL head coaches, as well as CFL fans.
