GIRARDI, MARRERO STILL REHABBING WITH REDBIRDS
A couple of St. Louis Cardinals are still on rehabilitation assignments with the Redbirds as the team returns to AutoZone Park today.
Catcher Joe Girardi is recovering from a lower back injury. The veteran backstop signed as a free agent with the Cardinals last winter but has been hampered by the injury and has appeared in only seven games for St. Louis. He started his rehabilitation in late May with three games for Class-A Peoria and three games for Double-A Tennessee before reporting to Memphis July 19. Girardi played in five games with Memphis before going back to St. Louis for physical examination. He rejoined the team today.
Eli Marrero, who has been out since suffering a severe right ankle injury May 12, began his rehabilitation assignment with Memphis last weekend in Omaha and stayed with the team as it returned to Memphis. The Cardinals expect Marrero to rejoin them at some point on their road trip to Pittsburgh and Philadelphia this week.
A valuable and versatile player for the Cardinals as a catcher and outfielder, Marrero enjoyed a career year in 2002, setting career-highs in homers (18), RBIs (66), runs (63), OBP (.327) and slugging (.451).

NEED MORE BASEBALL? LISTEN TO "ON-DECK FROM AUTOZONE PARK" BEFORE EVERY HOME GAME
Pre-game radio show sponsored by Express Oil Change
Can't get enough baseball? The Redbirds have a solution.
"On-Deck from AutoZone Park" airs 65 minutes before each home game at AutoZone Park on Sports56 WHBQ AM560. The show gives baseball fans a chance to listen to noted guests talk baseball with Redbirds broadcaster Steve Selby.
The show, which offers fans expanded interviews with players, coaches, front office personnel and other celebrities, originates from the BackStop Baseball Emporium and is sponsored by Express Oil Change.
"The format allows us to present a major league style show," Selby says. Hall-of-Fame broadcaster Ernie Harwell, ESPN analyst Tim Kurkjian, St. Louis Cardinals Director of Player Development Bruce Manno, St. Louis Post-Dispatch beat writer Joe Straus, ESPN the Magazine's baseball editor Jon Scher, Cardinals play-by-play man Wayne Hagin, Hall-of-Fame pitcher Fergie Jenkins and Houston Astros General Manager Gerry Hunsicker have all appeared on the show this year.
Tomorrow, Selby will speak with Cardinals Asst. General Manager John Mozeliak and look for longtime outfielder and part-time comedian Jay Johnstone to join Selby on Wednesday's show.
"It's a fun show for the fans to listen to on their way into AutoZone Park and serves as a reminder to those stuck in rush hour traffic that the Redbirds are in town," he says.
