
Sidewinders Pound Four Homers in Win

Tucson pounded four home runs, including three in the fifth inning on the way to a 7-3 win over New Orleans at Zephyr Field. Andrew Good worked six scoreless innings to even his record at 3-3, as the Sidewinders claimed the opener in a four-game series.
Brad Cresse hammered a long solo home run top begin the top of the fifth. Cresse, who went to college at LSU, connected for his tenth of the year, becoming the fifth Sidewinder to reach double figures in long balls. Three batters later Danny Ramirez ripped a two-run shot down the left field line pushing the lead to 4-0. Brian Gordon followed with Tucson's third of the inning, his team leading 13th to increase the lead to 5-0.
Jhonny Carvajal connected for Tucson's fourth home run, with an opposite field splash down landing in the pool behind the right field fence in the sixth, pushing the Sidewinders lead to 7-0.
Good allowed nine hits but no runs in six innings of work. The Zephyrs stranded ten men off him while losing one at the plate, two at third base and one runner between second and third base.
Gordon led the Tucson attack with three hits.
The Zephyrs scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth and put two more men on base. Brian Bruney was summoned from the bullpen to face Alan Zinter. Zinter drilled one back towards the wall in right and Luis Terrero caught the ball against the top of the fence to end the game.
Tucson improved to 62-61. The Sidewinders and the Zephyrs will meet in game two of the series Tuesday night at 5:00 p.m. (Tucson time). The game will be tape delayed on AM 990 KTKT at 6:00 p.m. Chris Capuano (7-3 3.12) will start for the Sidewinders against D.J. Houlton (2-0 5.19).
