Grand Rapids Griffins News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday recalled forward Ben Street from the Grand Rapids Griffins.
An alternate captain with the Griffins, Street has skated in 57 games and is tied for the team lead with 23 goals while placing second in points (23-28 - 51), assists (28) and power play goals (10). Street's 51 points also tie for 13th in the AHL. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound center shows 10 points (6-4 - 10) in the last nine games.
Should he debut with the Red Wings, Street will become the 162nd Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL.
During the 2015-16 season, he captained the AHL's San Antonio Rampage and compiled 21 points (7-14 - 21) despite being limited to 15 games due to injury. Street also logged a seven-game stint with the Colorado Avalanche.
Signed to a one-year contract by Detroit last July, the 30-year-old Street has appeared in 350 AHL games and 29 NHL contests since turning professional in 2010-11. Street has suited up for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (2010-12), Abbotsford Heat (2012-13), Lake Erie Monsters (2014-15), Rampage (2015-16) and Griffins. In total, he has accumulated 237 points (121-167 - 288) in regular season 350 games and was selected to the 2014 AHL All-Star Game. Street added five points (1-4 - 5) in 24 Calder Cup Playoff games between Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Abbotsford.
In 29 NHL games between Calgary (2012-14) and Colorado (2014-16), he has contributed two points (0-2 - 2).
As a member of the ECHL's Wheeling Nailers in 2010-11, Street was named the league's Rookie of the Year after scoring 51 points (24-27 - 51) in 38 games.
A native of Coquitlam, British Columbia, Street played for the Wisconsin Badgers (WCHA) from 2005-10. Over the course of his career, he scored 93 points (48-45 - 93) in 171 games and helped the Badgers capture the 2006 NCAA Championship.
The Red Wings take on the Canadiens in Montreal tonight at 7:30 p.m.
The Central Division-leading Griffins host Rockford on Friday at 7 p.m.
