Winston-Salem Dash News Release

Winston-Salem, NC - Four Salem hurlers combined to blank Winston-Salem as the Red Sox claimed a 4-0 win over the Dash on Monday night at Wake Forest Baseball Park. Red Sox starting pitcher Seth Garrison (5-7) was stellar as he tossed five scoreless innings and held the Dash to three hits. He did not walk a batter while striking out five to earn the win.

Reliever Ryne Miller worked two scoreless frames and Jose Capellan tossed 1.2 innings before Derrick Loop recorded the final out with the bases-loaded to secure the Red Sox victory in game one of this four-game series. It was Loop's 11th save of the season.

Salem got all the run support they would need in the first inning off Dash starting pitcher Johnnie Lowe. The Red Sox tallied three consecutive one-out singles, but Jason Place was gunned down at the plate by center fielder Salvador Sanchez when he tried to score from second on Yamaico Navarro's base hit. Anthony Rizzo overshadowed the stellar defensive play when he followed with a three-run home run to put Salem in front 3-0.

The score would remain that way until the top of the seventh inning when Salem manufactured a run. Kris Negron led off with a bunt single and stole second base. After a sacrifice bunt by Che-Hsuan Lin, Negron scored on a wild pitch by Lowe to extend the Red Sox lead to 4-0.

Lowe (6-3) suffered the loss after he surrendered four runs on 11 hits in 6.2 innings of work. On a lone bright spot for the Dash was third baseman Brent Morel, who finished with two hits to match his season-high with a nine-game hitting streak.

The Dash and Red Sox square off in game two of this four-game series on Tuesday night at Wake Forest Baseball Park. Winston-Salem will send RHP Jacob Rasner (1-0, 3.11) to the mound, while Salem will counter with RHP Casey Kelly (1-3, 3.32). The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Dash have introduced a new three-game champion plan. This is the only way to get the best seats for the playoffs before they go on sale to the general public. The three-game champion plan includes our three remaining fireworks games on July 24th, August 7th and September 3rd. Each plan comes with a FREE souvenir Dash hat.
