Potomac Nationals News Release
WOODBRIDGE, Va. -The Potomac Nationals announced today that right-handed pitcher Brad Meyers has won his second Carolina League Pitcher of the Week award for the week of June 29-July 5. He also won the award back in May for the week of May 4-10.
Meyers has been piling up the accolades recently, also garnering Potomac Nationals Pitcher of the Month honors for June after compiling a 2-0 record with a 1.27 earned run average. It was the second time he has taken home that award as well after earning the honor in April with a 2-0 record and a 2.00 ERA.
The Nationals' fifth round pick in the 2007 draft, Meyers has been the top pitcher in the Carolina League for the majority of the 2009 season in terms of his sparkling ERA which currently stands at 1.43. Currently carrying a 21 inning scoreless streak (also the second time this season he has had a scoreless streak of 21 innings in 2009), Meyers enjoyed a stellar week of Carolina League action.
In two starts, Meyers pitched 13 innings, allowing no runs on just ten hits while striking out 11 and walking only two, holding opponents to a .208 batting average. He picked up the win in both of those starts against Winston-Salem and Frederick to push his season record to 6-2.
The 23-year-old has held opponents to a paltry .222 batting average this season, including a .192 mark against right-handed batters. Feeding off a biting two-seam fastball, Meyers has coaxed opponents into a team-leading ten double plays.
Meyers and the P-Nats hit the road for six games with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and the Kinston Indians starting Tuesday night at 7:05 ET. You can catch all the action live on www.potomacnationals.com with Dan McGinn and Anthony Masterson starting with the pregame show at 6:45 ET.
Join the party all season long at Pfitzner Stadium with the Potomac Nationals! Single game tickets and mini-plans for the 2009 season are still available. For more information, call (703) 590-2311 or visit www.potomacnationals.com.
