
Red Sox Rake Past Woodies

Down East Wood Ducks News Release
In game three of the series between the Salem Red Sox and the Down East Wood Ducks, Aidan Curry sat down the Red Sox one, two, three in the first two innings. The Woodies offense reached scoring position twice in the first two innings but were unable to bring a run across the board. Both teams scored one run in the third with Asigen scoring from third on a Simon single after reaching via a walk and Alvarez scoring on a Gutierrez double after reaching via an error.
The fourth went scoreless and in the fifth the Woodies broke the tie in the bottom half of the inning with Alvarez hitting a double and Moller hitting a two-run bomb to go ahead 3-1. The Red Sox responded in the top of the sixth with two runs of their own. A walk, two singles, and a fielder's choice scored two runs with RBI's being credited to James and Lira. Down East could not respond in the bottom of the sixth.
Both teams went scoreless in the seventh as the Woodies threatened with the bases loaded, failing to bring anyone home. The Red Sox took the lead in the eighth scoring two runs to go up 5-3 as back-to-back walks allowed Romero and James to reach and two two-out singles by Mejicano and Asigen brought them home. The Woodies went down one, two, three once again in the bottom of the eighth. The Red Sox packed on three more runs after the Woodies had a horrendous ninth with three errors to end the game at 8-3 in a Red Sox victory. Cruz, the second reliever out of the pen for the Red Sox received the win on the night and Felix received the save for closing out the Woodies.
The Wood Ducks (47-35) and Salem Red Sox (40-43) play game four tomorrow, July 21st, with the Red Sox leading the series 2-1, as the first pitch is set for 7pm in Kinston, NC at Grainger Stadium.
