St. Cloud Rox News Release
Eau Claire, WI--- With tonight's 7-1 victory over the Eau Claire Express, the Rox moved to 5-0 to start the second half of the season, and find themselves in the midst of their longest winning streak in the 2015 campaign.
Coming off of the two game sweep over the Border Cats in Canada, the Rox continued their recent trend of excellent baseball, and dominated from start to finish today in Eau Claire.
St. Cloud struck first in the top of the second inning, when Brandon Benson (Georgia College) came around to score on a Connor Crane (Mcneese St.) RBI single.
Things remained tight until the fourth inning, when Brett DeGagne (UND) ran into a spot of trouble as he loaded the bases with 1-out. DeGagne worked his way out of the inning, however, when an Eau Claire batter popped up into right field for the second out. The Express tried to turn the fly out into a sacrifice fly, but a perfect throw from Lee Miller (Davidson) kept the Express off the board, and kept the shutout for DeGagne intact.
Degagne pitched well in his first start of the season, with 4 shutout innings to go along with 5 hits and 4 strikeouts.
The Rox added one run each in the top of the 5th, 6th and 7th innings respectively, to grab a 4-0 lead heading to the 8th.
Collin Strall (LSU) came on in relief in the 5th inning for the Rox, and had his most impressive performance so far this season. Strall went 3 2/3 innings, allowing just one run on 1 hit while walking none.
In the 9th, the Rox held onto a 4-1 lead before they blew the Express out of the water, tacking on 3 runs of insurance to put the game out of reach.
On the evening, Connor Crane was 3-4 with 3 RBI's, raising his batting average on the season to .286 in the process. The leadoff batter Jake Farr also had a stellar night from the plate, going 4-5 with a walk to raise his average to .297.
