
Anchors early sluggling lifts Alexandria to victory over Mallards

Alexandria, Minn. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors defeated the Madison Mallards Sunday afternoon at Knute Nelson Memorial Park by a score of 15-8. The Anchors have a 3-2 record in the second half and a 15-25 record overall.
The Anchors got on the board in a grand way in the first. Dane Hutcheon, Josh Merrigan and Ricky Sanchez all singled with one out to load the bases. After a pop out, Kyle Richardson drove a 1-2 offering from Nate Hoffman for a grand slam homer to right-centerfield to put Alexandria ahead 4-0.
In the bottom of the second, the Anchors offense kept rolling. Nehwon Norkeh led off with a double and Luke Petterson walked. Steve Sada beat out an infield bunt for a single to load the bases with no outs.
Hutcheon doubled in two runs on a line drive. After a groundout, Sanchez singled in one run pushing the lead to 7-0. After a pitching change, Matt Duce hit a three-run home giving the Anchors 10 runs. Richardson walked and an out later, Norkeh hit a massive homer to left field for a two run blast. Petterson then walked for the second time of the inning and he came in on Sada's triple and the score was 13-0.
Madison finally got to Max Knutson in the top of the third. Anthony Gonsolin singled and went to third on Ro Coleman's base hit. A fielder's choice from Cameron Frost scored Gonsolin for the first Mallards run. With two outs, Collin Theroux hit a single to drive in Frost and make the score 13-2.
Alexandria added two more in the third. Merrigan was hit by a pitch to star the inning and two straight singles from Duce and Richardson loaded the bases. Matt Hopfner singled in one run and Norkeh drove in another run putting the Anchors up 15-2.
The Mallards got back-to-back homers from Tony Butler and Gonsolin to cut the Anchors lead down to 15-4.
Against Ciji Ramos the Mallards got one run in the sixth. Gonsolin was hit by a pitch to start the inning and two wild pitches moved him to third. After a walk with two outs to Jean Ramirez, Bryce Carter singled in Gonsolin to make the score 15-5.
Another solo homer for the Mallards from Theroux made the score 15-6 in the top of the seventh. Charlie Cody was then hit by a pitch and moved into scoring position when pinch-hitter Jonathan Quintana was hit by a pitch. A single from Frost score Cody and cut the lead down to 15-7. Another run came in on a wild pitch with the bases loaded and after six and a half innings, the Mallards trailed 15-8.
Knutson (4-2) pitched five innings allowing four runs on nine hits and three walks and he punched out three hitters. Ramos finished the day with 1.2 innings and he gave up four runs on three hits and a walk, striking out three batters. Mitch Larson finished the ball game with 2.1 innings and no runs allowed on one hit and two walks with three strikeouts.
Minnesota Baseball Player Academy of the Game - Kyle Richardson (LF) - The outfielder from Notre Dame got everything started in the first inning with a grand slam. He provided two hits in four at bats and drove in four runs. He added a walk as well and his season average climbed to .236.
