Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis.- With the game-tying run coming to home plate, Mikey Duarte (UC-Irvine) was thrown out by Kory Brown (Bowling Green State) in right field to end the game at 7-6 in favor of Kalamazoo (11-29/3-4) over the Bullfrogs (24-16/2-3).
Parker Hamilton (Florida Gulf Coast) started the game and only escaped the first inning after tossing 41 pitches on four runs, three hits, three walks, and a hit batter.
The scoring commenced when Nick Yarnall (Pittsburgh) walked in a run with the bases loaded, followed by a two-run double from catcher Alex Gosser (Arkansas), and a Corey Dempster (USC) sacrifice-fly rounded in the fourth run to make it 4-0 Kalamazoo after one inning.
Green Bay bounced back with runs in the top of the second and fourth on a groundout to first base by Mikey Duarte, and another groundout by Ty Blankmeyer (St. John's) to make it 4-2 Kalamazoo.
With Connor Donovan (Lehigh) on the mound and two runners on with two outs in the fourth, Nick Yarnall hit a broken bat infield single to plate Justin Fletcher (Northern Illinois), and as Yarnall broke for second a Desi Ammons (Belmont) throw to the base allowed Jordan Stading (Houston) to score. It was 6-2 Growlers after four innings.
And the bats for Kalamazoo kept the pressure on the Bullfrogs with two outs as Kory Brown singled home Kory Young to up the advantage to 7-2 Growlers.
But then the Bullfrogs awakened with three runs in the eighth inning on an RBI hit from Robb Paller (Columbia) and two-RBI double from Danny Rosenbaum (Louisville) against pitcher Aaron Tadian.
After a scoreless inning in the bottom of the eighth from Jake Stolley (Northwestern), Brian Celsi (California) got the ninth started with a single into left field, followed up by a single from Matt De La Rosa (Lenoir-Rhyne) to put runners on first and second.
A Mikey Duarte single scored Celsi, but a throw home from Marquise Gill (Eastern Michigan) in left field downed De La Rosa trying to score on a tag applied by Alex Gosser at the ankles.
With Duarte on second after the throw and two outs, Blankmeyer slashed a single to right field, and a straight-line throw home from Kory Brown (Bowling Green State) in right field again downed a Bullfrogs runner at the plate to end the game in 7-6 win for the Growlers.
The Bullfrogs match their season high 2-game losing streak, and have given up a total of 27 runs over the past three games. They are 1-2 on the season against Kalamazoo.
Green Bay plays at 6:05CST against Kalamazoo tomorrow from Homer Stryker Field. Garrett Harrison (LHP/St. Cloud State) takes the slab for the Bullfrogs (2-1/1.33ERA/33 2/3IP) making his first start since June 22nd.
