Charlottetown Islanders News Release

An atypical week is long behind the Charlottetown Islanders and they've moved forward, staring down a Sunday afternoon matchup across the bridge as they head to Cape Breton in a match-up with the Eagles today at 4pm.

The Islanders (26-4-0-0) sit atop the QMJHL standings following Wednesday's obscure four-point night against the Eagles, in which they finished Tuesday night's postponed game before handily defeating their Nova Scotian opponents 7-1. Jacob Goobie quietly had himself a solid night between the pipes, making 22 saves for his eighth victory of the season. It was the tenth and eleventh straight victories for Charlottetown, establishing a new franchise-record winning streak as they surpassed the 2003-2004 PEI Rocket.

The legacy of Cédric Desruisseaux continues as the 21-year-old adds another notch in the belt of his incredible season. Desruisseaux currently sits on a 15-game point streak after picking up two assists on Wednesday night. That point streak is the second-longest in Islanders history and is tied for the third-longest in franchise history. Filip Chlapik holds the record with a 21-game point streak; should Desruisseaux pick up a point today, he'll break the deadlock with former PEI Rocket Danny Stewart for sole possession of the third-longest streak. Not to be outdone, Brett Budgell is in the midst of an outstanding hot streak of his own, up to a 13-game point streak heading into today's game.

The Isles won't have a full roster at their disposal as Zac Beauregard has been suspended for one game following Wednesday night's game. Beauregard acted as the aggressor in a fight with Eagles forward Matthew MacDonald after MacDonald threw a high hit on Noah Laaouan.

Meanwhile the Eagles (12-19-1-0) are coming off a hard-fought overtime victory over the Halifax Mooseheads just last night in Halifax. Dawson Stairs scored with 39 seconds remaining in the extra frame to give the Eagles their first win in eight games, a 5-4 decision over the Mooseheads.

Hostilities boiled over between the Eagles and Islanders on Wednesday night with five misconducts issued between the two teams on Wednesday night. With Cape Breton coming off another chippy affair that saw them receive four misconducts, what kind of aggressive play does today's matchup have in store for fans?

All of today's action can be heard live on Fair Isle Ford Isles Radio on YouTube. Want to make an afternoon of it?
