CORPUS CHRISTI - Kenedy Corona and Drew Gilbert, batting first and second for CC, were both a triple shy of the cycle Friday night as the Hooks upended the Missions, 8-1, before 5,095 fans at Wolff Stadium.
Corpus Christi has won 10 of 11 games and stands 15-5 since July 3.
The Hooks were one shy of matching their highest hit output of the year as they strung together 16 knocks, including three homers and six doubles. Corona, Gilbert, and Joey Loperfido each had three hits, with Zach Daniels, Luis Aviles Jr. and Garrett Wolforth all going 2-for-5.
CC scored five times in the second on a pair of home runs. Aviles blasted a 1-1 pitch over the berm in left for a 2-0 edge. The three-run salvo by Gilbert was his 12th round-tripper of the season.
Corona opened a three-run fourth with his 17th homer of 2023. Following singles by Gilbert and Loperfido, Daniels doubled down the third base line to plate a pair.
Rhett Kouba fired five innings of two-hit, one run ball en route to his seventh win. Kouba, who struck out six without issuing a walk, boasts a 1.91 ERA in his last six starts.
