Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
SAN ANTONIO - Corpus Christi picked up its 11th win in a 12-game span Saturday night, a 10-0 rout of the Missions before 4,652 fans at Wolff Stadium.
Since their eight-game winning streak was snapped on Wednesday, the Hooks have answered with triumphs of 13-2, 8-1 and 10-0.
CC recorded all of its runs and 11 of 13 total hits within the first five innings.
With two away in the first, a Joey Loperfido triple, and Zach Daniels RBI double set the stage for Zach Dezenzo's two-run home run that clanged off the left-field foul pole.
In the second, nine-hole hitter Yamal Encarnacion mustered a two-out knock before Kenedy Corona clubbed a two-run dinger, his second long ball in as many nights and No. 18 on the year.
Encarnacion added a lead-off single in the fourth and, following a walk by Corona, Drew Gilbert delivered a two-run double into right-center field for an 8-0 lead. Gilbert, hitting .328 in 16 games since July 4, has knocked in five runs over the last two nights.
Julio Robaina seized the big league by stranding six over four innings of work. Robaina scattered four singles and one walk before giving way Jonathan Sprinkle, who was awarded the win following his scoreless fifth.
Ryan Gusto faced one over the minimum while holding SA to a pair of walks over four innings to finish the Hooks' fifth shutout of the year.
Gusto has retired 36 of 38 Missions over three four-inning performances vs. SA.
Hooks hurlers, who blanked the Missions on Tuesday, have allowed just three runs on 12 hits and five walks over the last three games.
