Calgary Hitmen News Release

Calgary, AB - It was another important match up in the Calgary Hitmen's race for the playoffs as they welcomed the Red Deer Rebels at the Scotiabank Saddledome for the first time in nearly four months.

Despite a strong start for Calgary, momentum was in Red Deer's favour for the majority of the period with a pair of goals from Ben King and Liam Keeler to put them in the lead after the first 20 minutes.

The second period saw Red Deer extend their lead to three early but Calgary had a response from Zac Funk putting the Hitmen within two off a one-time feed from Cael Zimmerman. Red Deer answered back quickly with a goal from Dallon Melin, but Funk was quick cut the lead in half scoring another highlight reel goal for his 22nd of the season.

Red Deer's fifth and sixth goals came in the third period with King and Melin both notching their second goals of the game. Blake Stevenson put Calgary on the board again with 7:30 to go, scoring his 50th career goal. The game scoring concluded with one from Arshdeep Bains to give the visitors the 8-3 victory over Calgary.

Calgary remains in the ninth, one point back of the Swift Current Broncos for the final playoff spot and one point ahead of the Regina Pats and Prince Alberts Raiders.

The Hitmen will conclude their 68-game regular season schedule on Sunday, April 17 at home against the Lethbridge Hurricanes for Fan Appreciation night. Game time is 2:00 p.m. at Scotiabank Saddledome with the opening face-off preceded by the annual on-ice team awards. It's also another Sunday Funday in the 'Dome featuring "Farley's Family Feast" with special $2 prices for cotton candy, water, pop, hot dogs and popcorn plus select $5 menu items including pizza and hamburgers.
