
Red Claws to Select 3rd in 2011 D-League Draft

PORTLAND, ME - The Maine Red Claws received the 3rd pick in the 2011 NBA Development League Draft through a lottery conducted at the annual coaches meetings tonight in Denver. The draft will be held on Thursday, November 3.
The Los Angeles D-Fenders will have the first overall pick in a serpentine selection process, followed by Austin Toros, Maine Red Claws, Sioux Falls Skyforce, Texas Legends, Bakersfield Jam (acquired from Iowa), Erie BayHawks, Bakersfield Jam, Erie BayHawks (acquired from Idaho), Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Tulsa 66ers, Dakota Wizards, Bakersfield Jam (acquired from Reno), Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the as-yet unnamed Canton expansion franchise, and Tulsa 66ers (acquired from Springfield).

The draft is "serpentine" or "snaked" which means the order will be reversed in each of the eight rounds. For example, after picking first, Los Angeles ' next selections will be the 32nd and 33rd overall. Springfield received the last pick in the first round (acquired by Tulsa) but will select first in the second round.
Each of the NBA D-League's 16 teams will be given one pick in each round. No trades will be permitted during the draft, and only players signed to an NBA Development League Standard Player Contract are eligible to be selected.
"I am excited about this upcoming season and the team that we're building, on and off the court," Red Claws President and General Manager Jon Jennings said. "Now that we are entering our third season, we know what to expect and where we want to go. I think Red Claws fans will be excited to see the team that hits the court next month."
In addition to the 3rd overall pick, Maine will also select 25th, 30th, 35th, 62nd, 67th, 94th, 99th and 126th overall in the 128-player draft. The Red Claws picked up an additional selection (25th) in the second round of the draft, receiving Bakersfield's second round selection in trade last season that sent Tiny Gallon to the Jam.

Red Claws season and group tickets are now available and selling quickly. Now entering their third season, the Red Claws have packed the house for 48 straight games at the Portland Expo. Season tickets begin at just $240 for a 24-game package. Group tickets are also available can be reserved for just a $1 per ticket deposit. Individual tickets, which will range from $6 to $30, are expected to go on sale at the end of the month.
