Red Claws Fall Hard To Upstart Bakersfield 115-98

PORTLAND, ME - In the second day of a two-game mini-series, the Bakersfield Jam extracted revenge on the Maine Red Claws after losing by 23 points on Saturday. Jeremy Wise led the way with a team-high 24 as the Jam beat Maine 115-98 in the Portland Exposition Building Sunday night.
The game was an almost mirror opposite of yesterday's contest when the Red Claws dominated throughout. The Jam took a 6-5 lead with 8:24 to play in the first quarter and then led by double digits for most of the game. The Red Claws were never able to make the necessary defensive stops or gain any momentum to get back into the game. Maine shot 22 three-point field goals and were only able to connect on six.
Despite still suffering the effects of a stomach virus, Brian Butch chipped in with 15 while Amara Sy, Justin Hawkins, Reece Gaines, and Jared Newson were all in double figures for Bakersfield. Trey Gilder had a game-high with 28 and three other Red Claws were in double digits, but it wasn't enough to stop the balanced Bakersfield attack.
The game marked the fifth straight sellout for the expansion Red Claws in just five games. Bakersfield is now 2-11 on the year, while the loss puts Maine at 8-3. Maine is back in action at home on New Years Eve against the Iowa Energy, and the Jam will take on the Erie Bayhawks on Tuesday night.
