Tulsa 66ers Fall To Reno Bighorns On The Road

TULSA, Okla., December 26, 2009 - Despite out shooting their opponents, the Tulsa 66ers fell to the Reno Bighorns 102-87 Saturday at the Reno Events Center. Tulsa shot 50 percent (35-70), while the Bighorns shot 48.6 percent (35-72) from the field for the game. Oklahoma City Thunder assignee D.J. White, after arriving in Reno today, led the charge for the 66ers with 19 points and nine rebounds in his first game.

Desmon Farmer and Russell Robinson paced the Bighorns in the first quarter, with Farmer scoring 15 and Robinson scoring 11 in the period. Reno shot 5-of-8 from three-point range, as the Bighorns gained a 31-23 edge heading into the second quarter.

The Bighorns utilized a 15-2 run at the end of the first quarter, and into the second, extending their lead to 38-25 after Robinson hit a pair of free throws with 10:22 left before halftime. A 10-2 Tulsa run cut the lead to 35-40 following a White jump shot with 7:40 remaining. Though the Bighorns managed to only shoot 8-for-21 (38 percent) from the field in the quarter, they headed into halftime with a 54-44 advantage. Robinson finished the first half with 18 points, while Farmer added 17 in the half. Reno shot 8-of-17 from three point range and out rebounded Tulsa 22-14 in the half.

Both teams shot above 50 percent from the field for the second half, as the 66ers made 20-of-39 and the Bighorns made 17-of-31 from the field in the final two periods. The Bighorns led throughout the game, and outrebounded the 66ers 42-28. Reno also had a big advantage at the free throw stripe, going 23-for-30, compared to 14-for-19 for the 66ers.

Led by White, the 66ers (6-6) finished with four players scoring in double-figures. Mustafa Shakur added 17 points and five assists, while Cecil Brown contributed 11 points and five assists off the bench. Zabian Dowdell finished with 10 points off the bench for Tulsa.

The Bighorns (5-5) finished with four players in double-figures, led by Farmer's game-high 24 points. Robinson put up 20 points, while Rod Benson added 16 points and seven rebounds. Mo Charlo nearly finished with the triple-double, putting up 15 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out a game-high seven assists. Marcus Hubbard added 10 boards for Reno.

Both teams match up in the second game of the back-to-back series tomorrow afternoon at 5 p.m. CST.
