
Powell Leads T-Birds To Win Over Los Angeles

ALBUQUERQUE, NM, Dec. 27, 2009 - The Albuquerque Thunderbirds defeated the Los Angeles D-Fenders 115 - 111 on Sunday night, ending the team's six game losing skid. Carlos Powell led the way for Albuquerque with 40 points as the team led from start to finish.
The T-Birds got out to a quick start, and led 34-23 at the end of the first quarter. The team pushed the lead to 69-55 at the half behind 24 first half points from Powell.
Albuquerque led by 20 at the 8:22 mark in the third quarter, and used a balanced attack to keep the lead in double figures for the entire period. Los Angeles cut the lead to single digits late in the fourth, but Albuquerque was able to hold on for the four point win.
Joe Crawford paced the D-Fenders with 24 points, while Diamon Simpson added 18.
Powell's 40 points is the most scored in a single game in the NBA Development League this season. Chad Toppert (16), Kevin Pittsnogle (15), Keith McLeod (14) and Yaroslav Korolev (10) also scored in double figures for Albuquerque.
The Thunderbirds will again take on the Los Angeles D-Fenders on Dec. 29. The game will start at 4:30 pm MT, and fans can either listen in on 1050 KTBL or watch the game live on NBA Futurecast.
