Red Claws Acquire Gilder

PORTLAND, ME - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Quirk Chevrolet, today announced that Trey Gilder has signed an NBA Development League contract and joined the Red Claws. To make room for Gilder, the Red Claws waived Gary Ervin. The announcement was made by Red Claws President and General Manager Jon Jennings.
Gilder signed as a free agent with the Memphis Grizzlies on August 27, 2009. In two regular season games with Memphis this season, the 6-9, 205-pound forward collected two points, one rebound and a steal in a total of five minutes of action. Gilder, 24, also appeared in six preseason games, averaging 4.3 points and 1.5 rebounds in 9.8 minutes. He was a member of the Grizzlies' undefeated 2009 Vegas Summer League roster, posting 5.4 points and 2.8 rebounds on 63.2 percent shooting in 12.8 minutes in five games. The Desoto, Texas native, who originally worked out for the club at a three-day free agent mini-camp in Memphis from May 11-13, 2009, was waived by the Grizzlies on November 5.
A key reserve for the 2009 NBA D-League Champion Colorado 14ers of the NBA D-League last season, Gilder averaged 13.7 points and 5.5 rebounds in 23.9 minutes in 50 games as the team posted the D-League's best regular season record (34-16) and captured the NBA D-League title. He averaged 10.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in 14.8 minutes per game in all four of the team's postseason contests.
Gilder, who was not selected in the 2008 NBA Draft, was named to the 2007-08 All-Southland Conference First Team after leading the Northwestern State Demons in points (16.4) and rebounds (6.2) as a senior, finishing ninth in school history in points in a single season (542).

With the addition of Gilder and Alexis Ajinca today, and the addition of Bill Walker a week ago plus our current players, we feel we have a team that can compete with anyone. MAINE RED CLAWS: 2009-10 will mark the inaugural season for the Maine Red Claws. The NBA D-League team will begin play in November at the Portland Expo Building. The franchise is owned and operated by Maine Basketball, LLC, which is principally owned by Bill Ryan Sr., the chairman of TD Bank, and Bill Ryan Jr., owner and operator of Oxford Plains Speedway. Jon Jennings, a partner in Maine Basketball, LLC and former Boston Celtics assistant coach, serves as the team's president and general manager.
