
Los Angeles D-Fenders Victorious In Home Opener

El SEGUNDO, CA -The D-Fenders controlled the game from start to finish for the second consecutive game, as they outscored the Bakersfield Jam, 87-82. Michael Fey and James Jackson led the D-Fenders with 14 points apiece. Justin Hawkins carried the Jam with 22 points.
The D-Fenders outscored Bakersfield 21 to 15 to finish the first quarter. Michael Fey and Deron Washington led the D-Fenders with six points, while Diamon Simpson contributed with four. Bakersfield's Jared Newson led the team with four points, while Rodney Webb contributed with five rebounds.
Bakersfield trailed 30 to 38 at the close of the second quarter. Fey scored six points in the second quarter, bringing him to a total of 12 to lead the D-Fenders. The D-fenders outscored the Jam inside the paint, doubling their score 28 to 14 points, to close the half.
Bakersfield outscored the D-Fenders 25 to 24 in the third quarter, narrowing their deficit to seven. The D-Fenders closed the third quarter 62-55. Bakersfield also out-rebounded the D-Fenders with 33 rebounds to 28. Bakersfield's Hawkins went on a run scoring 13 points in the third quarter, leading the team with 16 points. Webb grabbed the first and only double-double of the night with 12 rebounds and 10 points while Newson chipped in with 10 points.
"I think that our energy level wasn't high and they [Bakersfield] stepped it up. They are a team that had some pride so we didn't have the energy that we needed. They had pride so they turned up their energy and we didn't match it [in the third quarter]," said Head Coach Chucky Brown, in regards to the Jam outscoring the D-Fenders in the third quarter.
Bakersfield outscored the D-Fenders again in the fourth quarter with a 27-25 advantage. Reece Gaines scored nine points in the fourth quarter. The D-Fenders' Dar Tucker and James Jackson came off the bench to pitch in 10 and 14 points, respectively.
