
Red Bulls Welcome Portland Timbers to Red Bull Arena for First Time Since 2018

HARRISON, N.J. -The New York Red Bulls (5-2-2, 17 pts.) will welcome the Portland Timbers (2-3-5, 11 pts.) to Red Bull Arena on Saturday, May 7 for the first annual Star Wars Night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET with coverage on MSG+, MSG GO, and New York Red Bulls Radio in English and Spanish via TuneIn, the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.
Coverage on MSG+ begins at 6:30 p.m. ET with the Red Bulls Pregame show. Steve Cangialosi will have the primary play-by-play responsibilities and will be alongside Shep Messing.
New York Red Bulls Radio begins at 6 p.m. ET with Countdown to Kickoff, presented by Honda, hosted by Matt Harmon and Steve Jolley. Sebastian Videla, Ricardo Alonso Arce, and John Rengifo will carry the Spanish play-by-play responsibilities, beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET.
This will be the 11th meeting in regular season history between New York and Portland, with the Red Bulls holding the advantage with a 5-2-3 mark and a 3-1-1 mark at Red Bull Arena. New York is coming off their fifth straight road win to begin the season after defeating Chicago Fire FC, 2-1, in a comeback win on April 30. Portland are winless in their last three MLS matches and have not scored in 282 minutes of action. The Timbers are currently 10th in the Western Conference with 11 points.
The Red Bulls will be seeking their first home win of the season on Saturday. New York are 3-1-1 against Portland at Red Bull Arena in franchise history. In his first career MLS start at Red Bull Arena, midfielder Luquinhas recorded his first career MLS assist -- he also tallied the assist on Patryk Klimala's first goal against Chicago Fire FC this past Saturday. The Red Bulls have an expected goals of 17.46, which is the third highest in MLS this season.
The Red Bulls defense has only allowed seven goals in nine MLS matches this season, which is the second lowest in MLS. New York leads the league in possession won with 614 and is tied for first in tackles won with 118. Defender Sean Nealis has won 42 aerial duels this season, which rans third in MLS.
Following Saturday's match, New York will continue their 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup run, when they travel to Audi Field to face D.C. United in the fourth round. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+, the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.
