Orlando City SC News Release
ORLANDO, Fla. - Orlando City SC has acquired 20-year-old forward Gastón González from Club Atlético Unión, commonly known as Unión de Santa Fe, of Argentina's Primera División, it was announced today. González joins the Lions as a U22 Initiative player on a three-year contract with Club options in 2025, 2026 and 2027, pending receipt of his ITC.
The forward has been placed on the Season Ending Injury list and will head to Orlando after undergoing surgery for an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury that was sustained in Unión's match against Club Atlético San Lorenzo de Almagro on April 19.
"Following Gastón's unfortunate injury we were able to restructure our deal for him to join the Club. For us now, Gastón's recovery is what is most important and we will give him all the necessary resources to come back healthier and stronger," said EVP of Soccer Operations and General Manager Luiz Muzzi. "Although we are saddened by the circumstances delaying his on-field arrival, injuries are a part of the game and we're very excited about having him here, his future with us and we look forward to him joining the team when fully healthy."
A product of Unión's youth academy system, González joined the Tatengue's first team in August of 2020, following one year with their reserve side. Since then, the winger has made 58 appearances across all competitions with the Argentinian club, including appearances in the Copa Sudamericana and Copa Diego Armando Maradona, scored eight goals and added seven assists in those matches.
González's timeline for return from surgery will be available after completion of the operation and a complete evaluation.
