On May 21, Reading United qualified for the third round of the competition after knocking off USL PRO side, the Harrisburg City Islanders, 1-0, at Don Thomas Stadium in Reading, PA, earning the club's first-ever professional upset in its history. Mario Pinto found the back of the net in the win. Reading advanced to face Harrisburg following a 2-0 victory over NPSL's FC Lehigh Valley United Sonic in the tournament's first round.

The Red Bulls will compete in the knockout tournament for the 17th time. Last year, the Red Bulls defeated USL PRO side, the Charleston Battery, 3-0, on the road before falling to the City Islanders on June 5, 3-1, in overtime in Harrisburg, PA. New York has never faced Reading United. Since Red Bull Arena opened in 2010, the Red Bulls are a perfect 4-0 in the Open Cup at home. New York's best finish in the tournament was in 2003, making it to the final before falling to the Chicago Fire, 1-0.

NEW YORK WRAPS UP THREE-GAME HOMESTAND AGAINST VANCOUVER The Red Bulls look to extend their MLS unbeaten run to eight when they finish a three-game homestand and face Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Red Bull Arena Saturday at 7:00 PM (TV: MSG; Radio: ESPN Deportes Radio Nueva York 1050 AM).

New York earned its first seven-game unbeaten run since 2003 when it came back to tie the Columbus Crew, 2-2, on a 91st minute Jamison Olave goal Sunday afternoon at Red Bull Arena. The Red Bulls now have 25 points, a 7-4-4 record and a two-point lead over the second place Montreal Impact. Thierry Henry also found the back of the net for his team-leading sixth goal of the season.

The Red Bulls will host Whitecaps FC on Saturday before having a 22-day break from MLS play. Vancouver is currently in eighth place in the Western Conference with 13 points off a 3-4-4 record. Whitecaps FC was on bye last weekend and their last match was on May 18 when it tied the Portland TImbers, 2-2, at BC Place. Vancouver faces the Impact on Wednesday evening at BC Place in the second leg of the Amway Canadian Championship final (currently 0-0 on aggregate) before traveling to the east coast. Forward Camilo Sanvezzo currently leads Whitecaps FC with three goals.

Since Vancouver joined MLS in 2011, the Red Bulls and Whitecaps FC have tied 1-1 in all three games that they have played against each other. Last year, the Red Bulls earned a 1-1 tie at BC Place on June 20, equalizing on a late Heath Pearce goal. New York recorded a 1-1 draw on Sept. 10, 2011 in Vancouver's only visit to Red Bull Arena.

OLAVE LATE GOAL HELPS NEW YORK EARN 2-2 TIE WITH COLUMBUS Jamison Olave's 91st minute goal helped the Eastern Conference-leading New York Red Bulls tie the Columbus Crew 2-2 Sunday at Red Bull Arena. Thierry Henry also found the back of the net for New York, which is enjoying its first seven-game unbeaten run in MLS play in 10 years (5-0-2 in past seven matches) and improved to 25 points off a 7-4-4 record, giving it a two-point lead over the second place Montreal Impact.

Columbus took the lead two minutes into the match. Eddie Gaven controlled the ball in New York's defensive end and slipped it to Dominic Oduro. Oduro raced into the box, cut to his left foot and slid it home to give the Crew the lead.

Jonny Steele nearly tied the game up immediately for the visitors, firing a shot on frame that goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum had to parry.

The Red Bulls evened the score in the 31st minute. Tim Cahill hit a long ball towards the top of the Crew box that flew over the Columbus defense and into Henry's path. Henry chipped it over Gruenebaum and into the netting for the Frenchman's sixth goal of the year. The Red Bulls Captain almost doubled his tally seconds later, again running onto a Cahill through ball, rounding Gruenebaum and putting it wide of net.

New York continued to exert pressure in the second half. In the 64th minute, Fabian Espindola rose up to head a Steele cross over the bar. Then, Eric Alexander volleyed it into the arms of Gruenebaum.

The visitors regained the lead on after Justin Meram was adjudged to have been fouled in the penalty box by Kosuke Kimura. Federico Higuain stepped up and put it the spot kick with 16 minutes to play.

The Red Bulls tried to rally to get back in the contest. Substitute Juninho ripped a blast from a Henry layoff but Gruenebaum was able to make the stop. Then, off a Juninho corner kick, Olave's goalbound header was cleared off the line by Kevan George.

However, Olave though would find the back of the net in the first minute of stoppage time. Steele played a high cross towards the back post and Olave was able to control the pass, cut it to his left foot and smash it past Gruenebaum.

BULLS ON PARADE

The Red Bulls earned their first seven-game unbeaten run (5-0-2) for only the third time in club history and first time in 10 years. The last time this occurred was from April 19, 2003 to May 31, 2003 when New York went 5-0-2. It was the first time that the Red Bulls has not lost in six consecutive matches from April 28, 2012 to May 23, 2012. During the current run, New York has conceded just six goals and earned two shutouts. Its last loss was on April 17 - a 1-0 home defeat to Sporting Kansas City.

In addition, after failing to win in their first four away games, New York has gone unbeaten in four road matches (3-0-1), improving their record away from Red Bull Arena to 3-3-2. The Red Bulls are 4-1-2 at home.

The other time that New York had an unbeaten streak that was seven games or longer was when it went nine matches without a defeat from June 17, 2000 to July 22, 2000 (7-0-2).

OLAVE REACHES CAREER HIGH

In his first year as a Red Bull, defender Jamison Olave has already broken his MLS season record in goals when he tallied the game-tying goal in Sunday's 2-2 tie with Columbus. Olave, who was acquired with forward Fabian Espindola from Real Salt Lake on Dec. 3, 2012 in exchange for allocation money, scored three goals with RSL in 2009 and 2010. The 2010 MLS Defender of the Year has played in 13 games for the Red Bulls, starting in 12.

HENRY SCORES SIXTH

New York captain Thierry Henry recorded his team-leading sixth goal of the season, chipping a Tim Cahill pass over goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum. Henry's last game in which he found the back of the net was on May 8, notching his sixth career MLS multi-goal game after scoring two in a 2-1 win over the Montreal Impact. His second was one for the highlight reel, connecting on an overhead kick in the 88th minute - the eventual match-winner. The goal was also the number one play on ESPN Sports Center's Top 10 Plays that evening.

Henry is in sole possession of fourth place in regular season goals scored in club history with 37, putting him two goals behind third place Clint Mathis. He is also tied with Mathis for third in club history in multi-goal games (6), trailing Juan Pablo Angel (12) and Giovanni Savarese (10).

Entering his third full season in Major League Soccer, Henry continues to be one of the game's top performers. In 2012, the World Cup, UEFA Champions League and European Championship winner was a finalist for the League's Most Valuable Player and earned a spot both on the MLS All-Star Team and the Best XI for the second-straight time in his career after tallying 15 goals and 12 assists.

CAHILL, MILLER CALLED UP FOR NATIONAL TEAM DUTY

New York Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill (Australia) and defender Roy Miller (Costa Rica) were called up by their respective national teams for upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifying Matches. Cahill left after New York's 2-2 tie against the Columbus Crew at Red Bull Arena last Sunday while Miller will depart following the team's match versus Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Red Bull Arena on June 1.

Cahill was called up for Australia's vital final qualifiers against Japan on June 4 in Saitama, Japan, Jordan on June 11 in Melbourne, Australia, and against Iraq on June 18 in Sydney, Australia. Cahill has 62 caps for his country. After joining the Red Bulls during the 2012 season, Cahill started in 12 regular season matches and two postseason games, notching a goal and three assists that year. Cahill has started in 14 regular season matches this year, notching four goals and three assists. Australia is currently in third place in Group B in Asian World Cup Qualifying with six points.

Miller has tallied 37 caps for Costa Rica and will join the Ticos for their CONCACAF qualifiers versus Honduras on June 7 (in San Jose, Costa Rica), Mexico on June 11 (in Mexico City, Mexico), and Panama on June 18 (in San Jose, Costa Rica). A member of the Red Bulls since 2010, Miller has played in 10 matches for New York this year. He tallied a career-high six assists in 24 appearances in 2012. Costa Rica currently has four points in CONCACAF Qualifying following a 2-0 win versus Jamaica on Mar. 26, 2013.

RED BULLS-GALAXY TIES ATTENDANCE RECORD

The Red Bulls-LA Galaxy game on May 19 tied a Red Bull Arena attendance record of 25,219 set on Oct. 20, 2012 when New York tied Sporting Kansas City, 0-0. It was the first sell out this year for the Red Bulls.

OFFENSE CONTINUES TO ROLL

The Red Bulls have continued to produce offensively and are tied in MLS in goals scored with 22 with the Portland Timbers. New York is also first in assists (28) and fourth in shots (189) and shots on goal (61). Fifteen players have recorded at least one assist this year and Juninho has a team-high four assists.

RED BULLS ANNOUNCE PARTNERSHIP WITH WEST SIDE SOCCER LEAGUE AND RANDALL'S ISLAND PARK ALLIANCE

The New York Red Bulls announced an Urban Soccer Program partnership with West Side Soccer League and Randall's Island Park Alliance on May 22.

Randall's Island Park Alliance (RIPA), West Side Soccer League (WSSL) and the New York Red Bulls have joined together to offer a free scholarship soccer camp to young male and female athletes from local communities surrounding Randall's Island Park.

The Randall's Island Urban Soccer Camp builds upon the New York Red Bulls 'Urban Soccer Program', and outreach initiative that serves urban communities in the New York City and Tri-state area, and the West Side Soccer League's strong tradition of providing scholarships to players who would otherwise not be able to play organized soccer.

"We are delighted to provide such a high-quality youth soccer camp, free of charge. Partnering with the New York Red Bulls and Randall's Island is the perfect way to extend West Side Soccer's commitment to the game of soccer, to the children of New York City and to the parks that make playing soccer possible," says West Side Soccer's Commissioner, Dana DiPrima.

"The Red Bulls are pleased to enter in a partnership with West Side Soccer League and Randall's Island Park Alliance," said New York Red Bulls General Manager Jérôme de Bontin. "We are committed to developing soccer on the grassroots level across New York City and the tri-state area and today's announcement of our agreement furthers our mission. This is a relationship that will continue to grow in the years to come.

Utilizing the Red Bulls extensive resources, and player development expertise, our goals are to provide programs that help engage children in physical activity, use soccer as a vehicle to teach life skills, encourage the values of teamwork and promote discipline, confidence and self-esteem.

"We are excited to offer a free first-rate soccer camp to local community children of all ability levels at Randall's Island Park. It is wonderful to work with partners, such as the New York Red Bulls and West Side Soccer League, who share our commitment to providing city children with an outlet to be outside and active," says Randall's Island Park Alliance's Executive Director, Aimee Boden.

The Red Bulls, Randall's Island Park Alliance and West Side Soccer League partnership has the potential to evolve into other exciting opportunities centered on the underserved youth in the NYC metropolitan area. The Red Bulls, who partner with West Side Soccer League to deliver a top quality, competitive travel soccer program, have already established a significant imprint in and around the New York area and earned the reputation as a club that is reaching out to the community to better the game. This partnership will help the Red Bulls Training Programs have a much wider, broader outreach to young players at the grassroots level.

The Randall's Island Park Alliance, formerly known as Randall's Island Sports Foundation, founded in 1992, is a public-private partnership with the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation that seeks to realize the unique potential of 480 waterfront parkland acres anchoring Manhattan, the Bronx and Queens. The Alliance works with the City and local communities to provide an innovative and exciting destination through a wide range of sports venues, cultural events and environmental exploration. As the dedicated steward of Randall's Island Park, the Alliance sustains, maintains, develops and programs the Park to support the well-being of all New Yorkers.

U.S. WOMEN'S NATIONAL TEAM TO FACE KOREA REPUBLIC AT RED BULL ARENA JUNE 20

The New York Red Bulls announced that Red Bull Arena will host an international friendly between the United States Women's National Team and the Korea Republic on Thursday, June 20. The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on the NBC Sports Network.

Tickets are on sale now through newyorkredbulls.com. Tickets can also be purchased by phone at 1-877-727-6223 (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET only) and at the Red Bull Arena ticket office (open Monday-Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.).

"We are proud to host the U.S. Women's National Team at Red Bull Arena for the second time in the stadium's short history," said New York Red Bulls General Manager Jérôme de Bontin. "As the top soccer stadium in North America, we expect that our arena will provide a perfect environment for both teams and we hope that fans across the tri-state area will come out to support this match."

The USA returns to Red Bull Arena for their second match at the venue following a 1-0 victory against Mexico on June 5, 2011, in the final game before the Women's World Cup. Midfielder Lauren Cheney scored the lone goal in that game.

"Any games are extremely valuable for the continued development of the team, but games against different kinds of opponents are even better," said U.S. head coach Tom Sermanni. "We've played seven matches this year against European teams so it's nice to have the challenge of playing two matches against the South Koreans, who play a different style. South Korea has been improving steadily over the past decade and over the past couple of years they have put together a young, but highly skilled team built on the back of great success at youth World Cups. With the expansion of the Women's World Cup from 16 to 24 teams, I'm sure they have their sights firmly set on a berth to Canada."

Groups of 20 or more can obtain an order form at ussoccer.com or call 312-528-1290. Ultimate Fan Tickets (special VIP packages that include a premium ticket, a custom-made official U.S. National Team jersey with name and number, VIP access to the field before and after the game, and other unique benefits) are also available exclusively through ussoccer.com.

As a sponsor of U.S. Soccer, Visa is pleased to offer all Visa cardholders access to an advance ticket sale for both matches before the sale to the general public. This advance sale starts Thursday, May 9, at 10 a.m. ET and runs until Friday, May 10, at 8 a.m. ET at ussoccer.com. Visa will be the only payment method accepted through the Visa presale and is the preferred card of U.S. Soccer. Terms and conditions apply.

The matches against the Korea Republic mark the first domestic friendlies during the inaugural National Women's Soccer League season and the first against the South Koreans since three matches in November 2008 following the USA's Olympic gold medal triumph in Beijing, China.

The U.S. team is 6-0-2 in 2013 and will play its next game on June 2 against Canada at BMO Field in Toronto. The match, which is sold out, is part of U.S. Soccer's Centennial Celebration which also includes a Men's National Team match against Germany at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. The MNT and WNT will play back-to-back on live television with the MNT match kicking off at 2:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2, WatchESPN and UniMas, followed by the WNT match at 4:30 p.m. ET on ESPNews.

RED BULLS ACADEMY UPDATE (MAY 28, 2013)

The New York Red Bulls Academy combined yet again for another victorious weekend of play after combining to outscore opponent 13-1 over three matches played.

In U-16 action, the Red Bulls defeated Seacoast United Sunday afternoon by the final of 4-0. Derrick Etienne dropped another goal for his team-leading 14th, and added an assist on the day as well. Alex Tejera picked up the brace, while Matthew Olosunde found the back of the net in his U-16 debut to round out the scoring. The clean-sheet victory improved the U-16s to 18-1-3 on the season.

The U-18s secured a convincing 7-1 victory over Seacoast United Sunday afternoon, inching them one step closer to clinching the Northeast Division Championship. After going down 1-0 early in the match, the Red Bulls bounced back in the second half to eventually score seven straight unanswered goals and close out the win. Kerlins Georges opened up the scoring for New York in the 45th minute off an assist from Erik Sa. Three minutes later it was Vinny Brunetti scoring his third of the season. The Georges-Brunetti goal exchange continued in the 57th minute when Georges rounded out the brace, only for Brunetti to come back one minute later with his second of the match. In the 60th minute, Georges secured his third for the hat trick, before Wesley Wade got his second of the year for the U-18s in the 63rd.
