Red Bulls Roll Past Inter Miami, 4-1
September 23, 2020 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
New York Red Bulls News Release
The New York Red Bulls (5-6-2, 17 pts) earned their second road win with a 4-1 victory over Inter Miami CF (3-8-2, 11 pts) on Wednesday night at Inter Miami CF Stadium.
New York improved to 2-1-1 on the road and moved into a tie with NYCFC for sixth place with 17 points in the Eastern Conference. The Red Bulls have won their last two road games and are unbeaten over their last three road matches (2-0-1).
The Red Bulls saw their seventh, eighth and ninth different goals scorers this season on the night. New York recorded 18 different goal scorers last season to tie the league record set by D.C. United in 2016.
New York earned a penalty kick in the 14th minute and Mandela Egbo converted to grab the game's first goal.
Failed clear in the 39th minute led to Matias Pellegrini sending a pass into the box for Juan Agudelo and beating David Jensen on his left to equalize.
Forcing a turnover inside Miami's defensive third, a tic-tac-toe play from Florian Valot at the top of the box to Omir Fernandez and then Brian White, who hits a low liner to give New York a 2-1 lead.
On a counterattack, Tom Barlow rocketed a shot at Luis Robles, who made the initial save, but Ben Mines picked up the rebound and finished to the near post to double the lead, 3-1, in the 85th minute.
With the game winding down, Daniel Royer, who came off the bench, used his only shot of the game to tally his third goal of the year and New York's fourth of the game.
Egbo, White and Mines all tallied their first goal of the season.
Egbo's penalty kick goal in the 14th minute was his first MLS goal of his career.
White tallied his 11th career MLS goal and his fourth career game-winning goal.
Mines, who has appeared in just six MLS matches, recorded his second career MLS goal. He has tallied a goal or an assist in four of his six MLS appearances.
Royer tallied his team-leading third goal of the season and 38th MLS goal of his career. The Austrian winger is just one goal shy of 50 goals across all competitions.
Cristian Casseres Jr., Fernandez and Valot all tallied assists in the match.
White's 49th-minute game-winning goal against Inter Miami improved New York's mark to 74-12-18 when scoring the first goal of the match since 2015 when the Red Bulls implemented their "high-press" system.
Interim Head Coach Bradley Carnell improved his managerial record to 2-2-0.
New York is 45-48-20 all-time in the month of September. New York has scored 167 goals in the ninth month of the year and allowed 179.
The Red Bulls return to Red Bull Arena to host Montreal Impact on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. with coverage on MSG and New York Red Bulls Radio in English and Spanish.
