Lancaster Stormers News Release
The record books of the Lancaster Barnstormers and York Revolution were rewritten Saturday evening as the visiting Revs rolled to a 20-2 victory over the Barnstormers in front of 7,011 at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
York established new franchise records with 20 runs, 28 hits, seven homers and 60 total bases which also served as the most in each category allowed by the Barnstormers in their history.
Scott Grimes led the attack with six hits, including a pair of homers and a double, in seven at bats. The York centerfielder scored four and drove in six. Ian Bladergroen and James Shanks had four hits each. Everyone in the York starting lineup had at least a pair of hits with one or more for extra bases. Everyone scored, and only Shanks did not drive one home.
Grimes led off the night with a double to right center off Sean Thompson (1-3) and scored on a pair of ground balls. York tacked on four runs in the second. Steve Haake was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a one-out single by Chuck Jeroloman. Liu Rodriguez rolled a single into right field for a 2-0 lead, and Grimes bounced another RBI single off the back of the pitcher's mound. Ramon Castro was hit by a pitch with two outs to load the bases. Bladergroen, a former Barnstormer, looped a single into right to score two more. The inning ended when Castro was thrown out trying to take third.
Then the real pounding began. York knocked Thompson out of the game with four extra-base hits, including a three-run homer by Grimes, in the third. Austin Hinkle took over and quieted the York bats for a couple innings before Castro led off the sixth with a homer to right for an 11-0 lead. Grimes and Andrus stroked back-to-back long balls in the seventh inning off Bill Muldowney.
Three more scored in the eighth on a two-run homer by Haake and RBI single by Grimes. The final insult came when Jeroloman greeted Ross Peeples with another homer off the picnic tents in right.
Lancaster got its only two runs off Derrel McCall in the fifth on consecutive homers by Adam Witter and Joe Gaetti. McCall (4-1) yielded seven hits, walked one and struck out four in six innings. He turned the ball over to Justin Hampson, who worked three shutout innings for his first save.
The two teams play a day-night doubleheader on Sunday. York will send lefty Jesus Sanchez (4-1), who just returned from the Oakland Athletics, to the mound in the noon opener against Lancaster right-hander Jose Sanchez (no relation), who is 2-6. In the nightcap, Shane Youman (2-4) will go against Josh Hall (5-2).
