Peoria Rivermen News Release

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Rivermen saw their SPHL-record 14-game win streak snapped with a 4-1 loss to the Fayetteville FireAntz at Carver Arena Saturday night. The loss, Peoria's first since a December 12 shootout with Mississippi, drops the Rivermen to 24-6-2 with one game remaining on the current home series with Fayetteville.

The first period was played without score before Fayetteville opened the scoring with a powerplay tally at 1:03 of the second. 29 seconds after Mark Corbett was whistled for holding Derek Elliot took a drop feed from Josh McQuade and beat Rivermen goaltender Kyle Rank to make it 1-0. The FireAntz doubled their lead at 6:55 of the second when Joseph Manno trickled a shot over Rank's right shoulder from the left circle to make it 2-0.

The FireAntz extended their lead to 3-0 at 7:09 of the third when Kyle Gibbons skated into the right wing of the Peoria zone and beat Rank for an unassisted tally. Peoria got on the board at 10:20 of the third when Adam Stuart buried an elongated wraparound on the powerplay past Fayetteville goaltender Parker Van Buskirk to make it 3-1. After Peoria pulled Rank in favor of the extra attacker with just over two minutes left in the game Gibbons came up with the puck in the neutral zone and fired it into the empty net for the 4-1 final score.

Rank stopped 30 of 33 shots he faced as he took only his fourth regulation loss of the season. The loss is Rank's first since a shootout with the Mississippi RiverKings at Carver Arena December 12, and his first regulation loss since December 4 at Mississippi.
