Lincoln Stars News Release

KEARNEY, Neb. - The Lincoln Stars (3-2-0-0) were shut down by the Tri-City Storm (4-1-0-0) in a 3-0 loss on Saturday night from Viaero Center.

The Stars kept up the pressure throughout most of the opening period, outpacing the Storm in a low-shooting early portion for a majority of the frame. However, three penalties by the Stars in the first period hampered more offensive opportunities, which led to the game's opening goal. At 17:38, Storm forward Filip Forsmark tipped a shot coming from defenseman Hugo Blixt to give the home side a 1-0 lead.

Another period of opportunities broke down for the Stars even shorthanded in the second period. Forward Tristan Ashbrook couldn't beat the crossbar on a shorthanded breakaway, and defenseman Wyatt Aamodt also had a chance thwarted down a player. Stars forward Casey Dornbach also had a breakaway broken up on even strength, so both sides went to the third period with no scoring change.

The Storm capitalized off an early turnover just 10 seconds into the third period on a shot from forward Joey Cipollone from Connor McMenamin to push ahead and add insurance, 2-0. More power play opportunities came for the Storm, and they converted once again on a Forsmark deflection at 7:11 to triple the lead, 3-0. Despite the push back by the Stars, the Storm held firm and kept the road side at bay.

Storm netminder Filip Larsson (4-1-0) earned the win, stopping all 26 shots faced, while Stars goaltender Derek Schaedig (0-1-0) picked up the loss, turning away 22 of 25 shots. The Stars will head back to Kearney on Friday, Oct. 27 at 7:35 p.m. for another meeting against the Storm from Viaero Center. Coverage begins 13 minutes prior to faceoff on 93.7 The Ticket, HockeyTV and Lincoln Stars Radio.
