
RECAP -- Stars Comeback Stopped in 4-3 Loss to Waterloo

WATERLOO, Iowa. - The Lincoln Stars (11-11-0-0) pressed hard in the third period but fell 4-3 to the Waterloo Black Hawks (14-9-1-1) on Friday night at Young Arena.
The Black Hawks grabbed the game's first goal at 3:20 on a shot from forward Ethan Johnson to take the 1-0 lead. Stars defenseman Wyatt Aamodt answered back at 4:57 on a rebound in the right circle to tie the game, 1-1.
Both teams exchanged goals again in the second period starting at 12:03 from a tally by Black Hawks forward Ben Copeland to take the 2-1 edge. Stars forward Devlin McCabe pushed the Stars even, 2-2, with a power play goal at 15:07 to extend the scoring streak on the man-advantage to five games.
The Black Hawks found two quick power play goals from forwards Solag Bakich at 8:12 and Jack Drury at 9:16 of the third period to double the lead, 4-2. The Stars pressed for the comeback and found the net at 17:03 on a rebound from forward Dominick Mersch to draw within one, 4-3. The potential game-tying goal was called back less than a minute later, and the Stars fell just short in the 4-3 defeat.
Black Hawks goaltender Matej Tomek (7-4-2) earned the win, halting 29 of 32 shots, while Stars netminder TomáÅ=A1 Vomá=C4=8Dka (7-9-0) picked up the loss, stopping 27 of 31 shots. The Stars finish their three-game stretch on Saturday, Dec. 30 at 7:05 p.m. against the Sioux City Musketeers at Tyson Events Center.
