REBELS RECAP
The Rebels are back in Red Deer after going 2-2 last week on their four-game eastern road trip.
SAT. DEC 9 - The Rebels scored twice in the second period and didn't allow a goal until late in the third period in a 2-1 win over the Prince Albert Raiders at the Art Hauser Centre. Zane Saab opened the scoring with his first WHL goal. Talon Brigley added a power play goal late in the middle frame. Dwayne Jean Jr. set up Saab's goal to run his point streak to four games. Jace Weir had two assists. Red Deer was 1-for-3 on the power play and held the Raiders off the scoreboard on an extended 5-on-3 man advantage.
FRI. DEC. 8 - The Rebels battled to the end against the #6 ranked team in the CHL but came up on the short end of a 4-2 decision to the Saskatoon Blades at SaskTel Centre. Samuel Drancak scored both Rebels goals on the night, including a third period power play tally. Dwayne Jean Jr., Quentin Bourne, Talon Brigley and Frantisek Formanek each had assists. Rhett Stoesser made 23 saves. Both teams were 1-for-3 on the power play.
WED. DEC. 6 - Frantisek Formanek scored the go-ahead midway through period three as the Rebels skated to a 5-1 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors at the Moose Jaw Events Centre. Dwayne Jean Jr., Talon Brigley (empty net), Kai Uchacz (empty net) and Evan Smith also scored for the Rebels. Chase Wutzke made 22 saves and earned an assist while winning his second-straight start. Red Deer outshot Moose Jaw 29-22 and was 0-for-4 on the power play while Moose Jaw was 0-for-3.
TUE. DEC. 5 - After an even first period the Rebels allowed three goals in the second in a 5-2 loss to the Brandon Wheat Kings at Westoba Place. Kai Uchacz netted his team leading 16th goal and Carson Birnie also scored for Red Deer in the first period. Brandon outshot Red Deer 37-25 on the night and was 1-for-3 on the power play while the Rebels were 0-for-5.
UPCOMING GAMES
Three more games for the Rebels this week before they head off for the holiday break. Two games are at the Peavey Mart Centrium as the Rebels host the Swift Current Broncos on Thursday (Dec. 14) and the Regina Pats on Saturday (Dec. 16). Prior to that the Rebels visit Calgary on Tuesday (Dec. 13) to battle the Hitmen. All games this week start at 7 p.m. MT and will be broadcast exclusively on 106.7 REWIND Radio and CHL TV.
SUPPORT THE FOOD BANK DURING THE HOLIDAYS
At our home game at the Peavey Mart Centrium on Thursday, December 16 versus Swift Current, Central Alberta Co-op is encouraging Rebels fans to bring donations for the Red Deer Food Bank. Food items or cash will be warmly accepted. Fans who make a donation will be eligible to win some great door prizes.
CHASE-ING WINS
Rebels rookie netminder Chase Wutzke is on a hot streak having won his last three starts. The Debden, SK native allowed just four goals against in those three starts (versus Everett, Moose Jaw and Prince Albert). He also posted a clean third period in a relief appearance in Brandon. In his last four outings Wutzke has a sparkling .956 save percentage and 1.13 goals against average.
HAPPY SAAB STORY
Congratulations to Rebels rookie forward Zane Saab who scored his first WHL goal this past Saturday at Prince Albert!
HOLIDAY SHOPPING UPDATE
The Rebels Team Store will be open next week for in-person shopping on December 18, 19 and 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. before closing for the holiday season. Online orders (link at reddeerrebels.com) to be shipped prior to Christmas must be made by 2 p.m. on Monday, December 18. Orders made after that will be processed Wednesday, December 27. Orders for shipping will be processed until noon on Monday, December 18, then shipped that afternoon. Call the Rebels office for more information at 403-341-6000.
