2024 NHL Draft-Eligible Forward Max Curran Named Kal Tire WHL Rookie of the Week
December 11, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Tri-City Americans News Release
Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League announced today that Tri-City Americans forward Max Curran has been named Kal Tire WHL Rookie of the Week for the week ending December 10, 2023.
Curran led all rookies in scoring last week with a goal and four assists in two appearances.
The 17-year-old helped the Americans pad the score with a pair of secondary assists in a 4-1 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds on December 8.
The following night, Curran found Brandon Whynott in the slot for the goal that would eventually stand as the game-winner in a 9-3 slugfest against the U.S. Division-leading Wenatchee Wild. The Prague, Czechia-born forward finished off a give-and-go play to beat Brendan Gee short side. He'd link up with Whynott once again to wrap up a single-goal, two-assist night.
The 2024 NHL Draft-eligible forward has been an assist machine in his inaugural season, putting up 23 helpers to lead his Tri-City teammates and all WHL rookies.
The Americans selected him in the first round, 39th overall at the 2023 CHL Import Draft. Curran previously represented Czechia at the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, where he won a silver medal and had a goal and three assists in nine games.
Tri City (15-12-1-1) is gearing up for a pair of road games against the Victoria Royals (18-12-0-2) on December 15 and 16.
