Real Salt Lake to Again Host Watch Parties Sunday for MLS Cup Playoff Match at Kansas City

November 24, 2021 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Real Salt Lake News Release

SANDY, Utah - Real Salt Lake fans have two options across the Valley THIS SUNDAY to once again gather and support this year's incredible Audi 2021 MLS Cup Playoff run, as both Beer Bar downtown (presented by Michelob Ultra) and the Rio Tinto Stadium Interform Club (presented by Ford) offer celebrity guests, prize packs and giveaways, along with U92 spinners E-Rock and DJ Bangarang to kick the parties off at 12 NOON MT in each location.

Real Salt Lake (14-14-6, 48 pts., West #7) travels back to Kansas City for the second time in three weeks in a "win-or-go-home" match to face rival Sporting KC (17-10-7, 58 pts, West #3) this Sunday, November 28. The Western Conference Semifinal matchup kicks off at 1:00 p.m. MT, and will be nationally televised via ABC and ESPN Deportes in the United States, with Canadian broadcasters TSN / TVA Sports airing the match. Additional RSL coverage for that game will occur via ESPN700 AM (English radio), 102.3 La Gran D (Spanish radio) and www.RSL.com.

Former RSL player and current TV analyst Brian Dunseth will again host the festivities at Beer Bar in downtown SLC (161 East 200 South), joined by the legendary Nick Rimando, former RSL goalkeeper and current Academy GK coach and community ambassador. At this 21-and-over party presented by Michelob Ultra, DJ Bangarang of U92 fame will also be on hand to raffle off RSL prize packs, holiday merchandise, with RSL also offering 2022 home opener tickets and holiday vouchers.

The ESPN700 AM pre-game and post-game shows hosted by Spencer Warne and Lauren Beck will also be conducted on-site at Beer Bar.

Ford once again presents Sunday's "family-friendly" option at Rio Tinto Stadium's Interform Club, where RioT announcer Mike Waldvogel hosts, along with other RSL luminaries, including Real Monarchs Manager Jamison Olave, along with the spectacularly-talented U92 deejay E-Rock. Attendees at the Stadium party will enjoy continued access to the RSL Team Store's "Black Friday" merchandise specials on the other side of Thanksgiving, with opportunities to win RSL prize packs, giveaways and 2022 home opener information as well.

Sunday sees RSL return to Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas, the site of perhaps the most dramatic "Decision Day" result in MLS history - one which featured RSL midfielder Damir Kreilach's 95th-minute stoppage-time stunner to vault Real Salt Lake into the postseason.

Tuesday night, RSL made history against perennial power Seattle Sounders FC, advancing via a sudden-death penalty kick shootout tiebreaker. During 120 minutes of regulation and extra time, RSL failed to register even one shot - on goal or otherwise, a first in Major League Soccer's 26-year history - and effectively end a 16-game home unbeaten run for the heavily-favored Sounders. Its staunch defense led by four RSL Academy products - GK David Ochoa; centerback Justen Glad, who slammed home the decisive penalty kick; and outside backs Aaron Herrera and Andrew Brody - absorbed 21 shots (just 3 on goal) and 64% possession from Cup favorite Seattle, before 34,012 home fans.

Real Salt Lake - which won MLS Cup in 2009, before losing in the final in 2013 - has advanced to the postseason for the 11th time in 14 seasons, and for the third time in the last four years. The Claret-and-Cobalt join Sporting KC as ONLY two of 26 MLS clubs to have advanced at least one round in the MLS Cup Playoffs in three of the last four years, something powerhouses Atlanta United and Seattle, among others, have failed to accomplish.
