Real Salt Lake News Release
HERRIMAN, Utah - The Real Salt Lake Basketball Academy announced today that sophomore point guard Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn has joined the program midway through the 2020-21 season. The native of Lafayette, Indiana, was ranked by 247sports.com as the No. 9 recruit in the country for the class of 2023 following his freshman season.
"When I first came here to visit it felt like a family," Gibbs-Lawhorn said. "My number one goal, like every other basketball player, is to go to the NBA and I feel like RSL is the best place for it."
Gibbs-Lawhorn averaged 21 points, 3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game as a freshman at McCutcheon High School in Lafayette, shooting 48.5 percent from the floor and 46.3 percent from three-point range. He has yet to play in his sophomore season after suffering a broken foot over the summer. The injury saw others surpass him in many recruiting rankings, but remains a top-10 point guard in the ESPN national rankings.
"The moment I met Dravyn and his mom and dad, I knew he was the right fit," RSL Basketball Academy Head Coach David Evans said. "The ceiling for him is as high as his discipline will take him because of his athleticism and his shooting ability."
The RSL Basketball Academy is currently 15-3, playing a schedule that has included games against nationally-ranked opponents in the Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
