Real Monarchs News Release
HERRIMAN, Utah - Real Monarchs SLC (3-4-2, 11 points, 15 West) returns from its bye week when it visits Taft Stadium in Oklahoma City to play OKC Energy FC. The contest is set for Saturday, May 18 with the evening kickoff from Oklahoma City set for 6:30 p.m. MT.
Two weeks ago, Real Monarchs saw its 2019 undefeated home streak come to an end as Fresno FC walked away from Zions Bank Stadium with the three points on a 4-2 score line. After the Monarchs got on the board early through a rifled shot from MF Maikel Chang, Fresno responded quickly slipping a ball in to put the scoring even going into the break. Soon after the opening whistle of the second half, the Monarchs dropped two goals, before responding with a flurry of opportunities and a goal from MF Josh Heard that nearly pushed the Monarchs level. Fresno FC dashed the Monarchs attempts however, scoring a fourth and final goal in the 90th minute.
The Monarchs entered bye week, taking a week to rest and recuperate after the loss to Fresno FC, and now go on the road to face OKC Energy FC in the first meeting between the two clubs in 2019. The last meeting saw the Monarchs down Energy FC, 2-1, after a pair of goals from MF Sebastian Saucedo secured the win for the Utah side in early October. The win extended the home record against OKC Energy for the Monarchs to a record of 3-0-0. Real Monarchs now looks to snap its road skid at Taft Stadium, a venue the Monarchs have yet to walk away with points in hand, holding a record of 0-4-0.
