
Real Monarchs SLC Claims 3-1 Win over Tulsa Roughnecks FC

TULSA, OK. - Real Monarchs SLC (6-6-3, 21 points) picked up three points on the road with a 3-1 win over Tulsa Roughnecks FC on Saturday night.
DF Konrad Plewa, MF Masta Kacher and FW Douglas Martinez tallied all tallied goals in the victory.
The contest started quickly as Tulsa Roughnecks FC picked up an early goal in the 7th minute through Rodrigo Da Costa. The Monarchs mounted a response that nearly found a goal through MF Maikel Chang, whose close-range shot was barely saved by Tulsa goalkeeper Erik Dick. The equalizing goal came in the 17th minute when Kacher cleaned up a mess in front of the net then took the lead after Martinez flicked back a corner kick to the far post where Plewa snuck in a headed goal. The Monarchs defense went to work for the remainder of the first half, shutting down the Roughnecks offense to go into the break with a goal lead.
Real Monarchs continued to hold its momentum early in the second half. The offensive pressure paid off quickly as MF Josh Heard laid off the ball to Martinez, who turned a fired a shot into the bottom corner of the near post. The match slowed down as the Monarchs packed in defensively to limit the Roughnecks attack to only two shots on goal and come away with the three points at ONEOK Field on the night.
UP NEXT: Real Monarchs SLC returns from its road trip to host New Mexico United in Herriman. The match-up is scheduled for next week on Saturday, July 6th, where kick-off from Zions Bank Stadium is set for 8:00 p.m. MT.
GOAL SCORING RUNDOWN
TUL: Rodrigo da Costa, 7th minute - After a bad giveaway in the defensive third, Rodrigo da Costa picked up the ball and took his opportunity to fire a shot that took a curve out of reach of GK David Ochoa to open the scoring early in the night.
SLC: Masta Kacher, 17th minute - Real Monarchs leveled out the scoring after Josh Heard cut a pass from the right side in towards the penalty area where a scrap left Kacher the opportunity to tap the ball over Tulsa goalkeeper Erik Dick and find the first goal for the Monarchs.
SLC: Konrad Plewa (Douglas Martinez), 21st minute - Moments after its first goal, the Monarchs took the lead after Noah Powder sent in a cross from the corner kick. Douglas Martinez jumped and got a head to the ball to send it back to the far post where Plewa dove with the headed effort to sneak the ball in.
SLC: Douglas Martinez (Josh Heard): 50th minute - Real Monarchs SLC came out of the gate with fire in the first half as the attacking side put pressure around the Roughnecks goal. Josh Heard fought off two defenders within the penalty area to lay the ball off to Martinez who slipped in the shot to the near post.
KEY SAVES AND DEFENSIVE STOPS
TUL: Erik Dick, 12th minute: Real Monarchs SLC mounted a response after going down early in the first half and found its first strong opportunity as FW Douglas Martinez cut a pass in towards the middle where Maikel Chang lay waiting. Chang took his close-range shot where Erik Dick came up big to shut out Chang's attempt.
SLC: David Ochoa, 61st minute: As Tulsa Roughnecks FC began applying pressure around the goal, the home side rifled a shot towards goal. Ochoa got a touch, tipping the ball over the crossbar to keep the two-goal lead.
NOTES:
- GK David Ochoa made his first appearance in the Monarchs jersey since returning from the U-20 USMNT for the U-20 World Cup.
- The result at ONEOK Field pushes the Monarchs road record to 2-4-2 in the 2019 season, earning its second consecutive road win.
