Fresno FC News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - Los Zorros will look to derail El Paso Locomotive and hand the visitors their first road loss of 2019 when they battle it out on Pride Night at Chukchansi Park. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, June 29. The match will be televised on CW 59 and streamed live via ESPN Plus.
The contest presents Fresno an opportunity to leapfrog its opponent in the standings, as the two clubs just sit two points apart - El Paso in third with 27 and Fresno in sixth with 25. Los Zorros are coming off a strong performance that saw the club win 3-2 against San Antonio for its first victory in the month of June. On the other side, El Paso is coming off a 0-0 draw at San Antonio and are winless in their last two matches, despite winning four of five before that point. Leading the way for the visitors is Jerome Kiesewetter, whose 10 goals are tied for second-most in the entire USL.
Distributing most of the attack are Omar Salgado and Sebastian Contreras, who lead the club with four assists each with Contreras also creating a team-best 31 chances. Fresno's defensive record for the first half of the season has been matched only by El Paso, with the visitors conceding a conference-low 16 goals and collecting eight clean sheets along the way behind goalkeeper Logan Ketterer. El Paso center back Bryam Rebellon leads all defenders in the league in winning 37 of 47 tackles, and leads his side in aerial duels won (27), and is second with 21 interceptions and 115 duels won.
Fresno's Jemal Johnson has found his form in the month of June, collecting three straight El Mexicano Man of the Match performances for the Foxes while also being named to his second consecutive USL Team of the Week. Johnson has been involved in five of the club's last six goals in the month of June. Defensively, center back Ramon Martin Del Campo continues to lead the back line, having played every minute of the 2019 season to date. Del Campo leads the defense in aerial duels won (61 of 87), and has recorded 17 interceptions and made 65 clearances. His 14 blocked shots are also tied for eighth-most in the USL.
It is the first-ever meeting between the two sides. Fresno makes its trip to West Texas on October 2.
